This restaurant is next to the gas station in Volcano, and looks unassuming from the outside. The staff we all very pleasant, there was a mix of locals and tourists, and the food was great. Affordable too, even with dessert. Oh, desserts are all handmade and awesome! We had a slice of pumpkin crunch pie: think your grandma's best homemade pumpkin pie with a macadamia nut crunch crust... SO good!!

can you say "world class dining"?shorts, flip-flops or dressy, as you like it. no reservations, be prepared to wait 1-1 1/2 hour on Fri. or Sat. night. locals come from 40 miles or more just to dine on the incredibly delicious food. call ahead, make tha reservation. you will not be disappointed (rome, paris, hong kong, sydney...this place is better)..

Thank STUART C

We hate eating at fancy restaurants with high prices so we tried Lava Rock Cafe. It has a very local feel to it, not fancy by any means! I had the mahi mahi plate lunch and it was good with a nice grilled taste to it. I even went back a second day and had the same thing. The service was good and the people very friendly. They serve great cold beer and so we spent a couple of evenings there just having a couple of beers. The prices were decent especially when you compare them to the fancy restaurants.

We love to have an excuse to go to the Lava Rock. The menu is great, portions are Hawaiian-size, and service is prompt and friendly. The food is delicious. While there, you can have a meal, fill up with gas, check the quilting store in back, and pick up a supply of coconut bars at the convenience store in front. (Caution, the coconut bars are addicting, don't say I didn't warn you). The Lava Rock Cafe is a great place to stop after a day of hiking in the park, watching the steam rise, or just to have a great meal with people you love. It's where the locals go.

Restaurant is cozy, we had the erupting burger and was really good, with grilled cheese. They serve it with french fries, salad and the soup of the day, Our soup was chicken with tortilla and was very very good
