“Lovely Home”
Reviewed March 27, 2017 for a stay in March 2017

My husband and I stayed in this rental for several nights in March 2017. The pictures are very accurate and the owner very prompt in responding to messages and ensuring we received the information needed for the rental.
The home offers a lot of privacy and is well stocked. The only drawback we found with this home is the inside temp in the late afternoon, it does get quite warm. After a long day of hiking in hot weather, we sat outside on the lanai to cool off because the house was so warm. Fortunately, the house also cools off within a couple of hours and the nighttime in Volcano is quite chilly so we appreciate why a/c is not necessary. A ceiling fan in the bedroom would be very helpful. Be sure to keep the drapes drawn during the day to keep the house as cool as possible.
Although we didn't do any cooking, the kitchen is well equipped and spacious enough to make home meal prep easy. Also appreciated the menehune information as our trip to Oahu included several references to menehune and we understood the context.
Volcano village is an eclectic, friendly area and my husband and I enjoyed eating at the Lava Rock Cafe and visiting with the locals in area businesses.

Management Response
Apr 1, 2017
Well rats... very sorry to hear it was too when coming home to the cottage. I wish I'd known so we could have provided another fan, which we don't already have there as I've never had this feed back before.. While noone in Volcano has air conditioning being at 4k' elevation, it is also true of most homes that aren't on the coast. We count on our tradewind breezes.. so we 'open' our homes up for air and breeze, not close it up. I ask several places to please let us know 'during' your stay about such things. We so sincerely want your stay to be great and its disappointing to not offer a fix when we can.
MAHALO.. Leslie

“Cute Cottage Perfect for a Weekend Stay”
Reviewed December 21, 2016 for a stay in December 2016

My wife and I stayed at the cottage for two nights in Volcano. The place was just perfect! It has everything you could need for a stay including lots of kitchen utensils. My wife kept saying "this place is so CUTE!" The binder of local attractions and travel tips was extremely helpful - Leslie has it all figured out! If we're back in Volcano again, we'll book this cottage. Thanks Leslie!

“Great place to stay”
Reviewed November 19, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We stayed here for five nights. For us this one-bedroom cottage in the middle of the rainforest was a delight. It appears to be in an isolated location down a narrow laneway but really isn’t that far away from anything. It really is a great base for exploring the area around here. There is so much to see and do. You really must see lava flows and they are easy to see here.
The cottage has everything you will need to be comfortable. It is both spacious and cozy. The king-size bed was so much to our liking. There is a good gas stove inside which you will need in the mornings because it does cool down at this elevation. You can find basic groceries nearby and a couple restaurants. Hilo is only about 30 minutes away anyway. The General Store nearby makes really good sandwiches to go. So you can stay out as long as you want. Plan to spend some time up here; there is just way too much to do.
A couple reviewers did mention the big cistern out front but for us it really was not an issue. We were out enjoying the area all day long. And it is beautiful here anyway.
We highly recommend these cottages and we were thoroughly delighted for our entire stay here. When you go out make sure that you have something to handle rain because it rained off and on anytime during the day and night. Showers were always short and never were an interference.

Management Response

Very happy to see a guest enjoy all there is to offer on this side of the island. Just a side note that we do have umbrella's for your use there, and the only couple comments we had regarding the water tank from the Mahana cottage was after a maintenance issue which now the garden around it has recovered from and is an often re-requested cottage. Mahalo! Leslie

“Clean, attractive, comfortable, quiet: what more could you want?”
Reviewed November 9, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The owner was very helpful when I made a booking error, easy to contact when we had a question, a font of information, and, yes, very clear about her expectations. That is probably why her cottage was in such good condition.
