“Great Sandwiches”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

For a small town, there are several restaurants to choose from in Volcano Village. If you're passing through during lunch, I recommend Cafe Ohia for delicious sandwiches. Start by choosing one of the artisan breads...I like the cranberry Mac nut. Add your meat, veggies, and condiments and you'll have a delicious sandwich that could be enough for two. Located in back of a general store with outdoor seating next to the street and parking, it may lack "atmosphere" but the food is worth it. You could order to-go and enjoy your meal in the National Park. They also have salads, soups, and desserts.

So you get JN the place and its tiny. Really tiny. You see the price list and $8.50 for a sandwich? Then you get it and it more: $8.50 for a SANDWICH!!!!!!

They are huuuuuuuge. Easily shareable between two people as we did

Cranberry macadamia nut bread with ham and Swiss and all the fixings. Good stuff

“Consistently Excellent, Local Cuisine and Baked Goods”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Do not be fooled by the look of this place - it has the best food in town with great service. The food is all made from scratch, is mouth-wateringly delicious and comes at a reasonable price. After moving here from Europe several years ago, we have learned from bitter experience that there really are only two eateries worth dining at in Volcano, Café Ohia is our favorite and Café Ono is a great place to take our vegetarian friends.
In general on the Big Island, the best food is always found in small non-descript locations like this one. Beware the bigger, flashy establishments like Kilauea Lodge, who take themselves far too seriously and pretend to be something they are not, with disastrous (not to mention oeverpriced) culinary results.
One of my favorites is the Portugese Bean Soup in a bread bowl and EVERYONE loves their baked goods! These guys make excellent unpretentious food with a local flavor and more than a passing nod to keeping it local, sustainable and environmentally friendly,

“Good things come in small packages”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

This is a tiny café, with outdoor seating. You can barely turn around inside. However, the food is amazing. The "half" sandwiches are huge, soups are put in sourdough bowls, which are homemade & delicious. The desserts amazing. I had to take a breadbowl home, it was so good. The laulau plate was perfect. The service was fast and friendly. For a tiny café, the selection is very good, and the daily specials are more than reasonably priced. Don't know why we waited so long to stop here.
