Crater rim cabin was fantastic. The gentlemen who run it are warm and friendly, it's incredibly clean, and it's very close to Volcano National Park. The garden is beautiful though we didn't venture out into it much as it is cold and rainy most of the time in Volcano. Very generous breakfast items provided. There is certainly space for one or two young children in the cabin though it would be tight for school-aged kids and older with their parents. The bed was not as comfortable for my preference but I'm sure there are others who would disagree.

Our stay at The Crater Rim Cabin was one of the most memorable accommodations either of us had ever experienced. A stay in the Cabin is worth rearranging your schedule for – it’s the best bargain on the island.

When we arrived at the cabin, our host was putting finishing touches to the place. He personally took us thru the rooms, pointing out all amenities including fresh water, coffee and food waiting for us in the kitchen, an electric blanket warming the bed in the bedroom, floor-to-ceiling windows in the bath (with an endless supply of fluffy towels), a library of information about the volcano and the local area – and a backdoor to the crater in the backyard. The entire cabin was spotless and perfectly appointed – we felt like we were in a magazine spread. Our hosts were quick to respond to all our questions; we could not have asked for more. Its central location is breathtaking and the hosts unbeatable.

Crater Rim Cabin was an amazing place to stay. Just minutes from the entrance to Volcano National Park, this private cabin is run by two lovely owners who live on the same property. Isolated amid lush vegetation, we felt like the only people on earth. Every detail is attended to. The full kitchen was great for cooking up a hearty breakfast before spending the day hiking in the park. The kitchen was stocked with breakfast foods : bread, butter, milk, condiments, coffee, and tea. The place was imbeccably clean and beautifully decorated. A little tricky to find, the owners are more than glad to help guide you there when lost, but directions were never a problem from there again. We also got to see some Nene wandering around on the golf course. We plan to go back someday and stay longer!

My friend and I stayed at the CRC for 2 nights in November. We were very happy to get the cabin last minute and we were giuded over the phone to its exact location by one of our hosts, Barry. The cabin is located within 2 miles of the Kiluea Caldera and is completely private and secluded, even from the main house on the property.
We were very happy to arrive and see a welcome sign personlized with out names on it. We were greeted by Barry who was still meticulously cleaning the cabin and who gave us a tour of the cabin and the property. The property is beautiful and lush. There are many windows in this rustic cabin looking out on to the property.
There is a king size bed in the bedroom and a nice futon in the living room. The gas fireplace is very nice and the electric blankets on the beds make for great warm sleeping.
The kitchen was stocked with eggs, bread, juice, milk and cereal.
Barry is very knowledagble with regards to the volcano and the surrounding area. Inside the cabin you will also find literature on the local area with maps and activity guides.
I wish I was still there.

p.s.
If you are going to see the lava flow in to the ocean it is open from 5-10pm. However you must arrive before 8pm or you will be turned away as we were. Very disappointing. It gives us an excuse to go and stay at the cabin again.

Aloha!

We just completed a 2 night stay at the Crater Rim cabin. The hosts, Jim & Barry where very professional, and quick to answer all of our questions. The cabin is roomy and was just the right size for me, my wife, and our 9YO and 2YO kids.

Although a little tricky to find the first time, we easily got back to the cabin each evening. It's directly next to the golf course and is very remote! The breakfast items were great, but we suggest pancake mix and oatmeal packets to complete the breakfast selections.

The cabin has covered parking for one guest car. As other guests mentioned, the place is cozy and VERY clean. Barry mentioned he works on "reconditioning" the cabin for 4 hours between guests.

The cabin is centrally located to the Volcano National park and only about 45 minutes from the airport.

Crater Rim cabin is a unique Bed and Breakfast accommodation. The breakfast is managed by the guest in a full-service kitchen supplied with eggs, bread, and tea/coffee. The rooms are immaculately clean and the location is within easy walking distance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park within which one can enjoy all the trails and view lava activity at Kilauea's summit (since 2008) and on Kilauea's east rift zone (since 1983). The 15-minute trip to the Park takes one through the Kilauea Military camp, a rest-and-recreation facility with a general store, gas station, bowling alley and cafeteria, all open to the public. A public golf course with a restaurant open for lunch is across from the accommodation. The owners maintain a beautiful garden that complements the equally beautiful native vegetation.
The proprietors also run a small business, "Tutu Nene," named for the native Hawaiian goose that will be seen during your stay. The business is well worth investigating for unique Hawaiian gifts, including postcards, refrigerator magnets, aprons and stuffed replicas of the Nene goose. Jim Griggs is a professional photographer and his work is also on display and for sale.
All in all you are guaranteed a memorable stay in Hawaii.

Cozy cabin? In Hawaii? Yes - because at 4000 feet elevation, the nights are cool - often in the 40's. So it is a pleasant surprise to find Crater Rim Cabin with its bed already warmed by the electric blanket, and a gas fire awaiting only a flick of the switch to cheer up the welcoming living room. It is spectacularly clean; food awaits you in the fridge for an island-style breakfast with tropical fruits; there are books and leaflets to give you information about programs and things to see iin the National Park. The hosts go out of their way to point you in the right direction. I plan to go back again and again!
