“Gorgeous stay in Kate’s Volcano Cottage”
Reviewed December 23, 2013

It was one of the best stays we ever had. Kate’s Cottage was a very large unit with a very good equipped kitchen. The lanai was very pretty. A table and chairs to sit and eat outside. It was very quiet. The host was very friendly. Everything was very clean and well-tended. It was a very lovely stay in midst the rainforest. I would definitively stay here again whenever I am in Hawaii.

My aunt and I stayed here for one night while visiting Volcanoes National Park. Kathryn was very helpful; she seemed to know everything about the area. The bungalow was excellent, clean and cozy, and outfitted with everything you could possibly need on your trip to the park. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there!

Wow, we stayed for two nights with our kids in the two-bedroom cottage. It was better equipped than any rental we have ever been in. Complete with games, toys, coloring for the kids, music, DVD's of the volcano area, maps, and a kitchen with more amenities than we have at home. Fully stocked with breakfast items, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, etc too. Kathryn is a fountain of knowledge, take the time to listen to her explain the history and geography. She also sent us tons of information on the area before we arrived so we could make the most of our time.

We loved the cottage, a lovely updated 60's bungalow with the original koa wood floors and thoughtful renovation. It was obviously a labor of love for them to rebuild these buildings, custom cabinetry and lots of attention to detail.

And Kathryn has really deluxe sheets and pillows...so comfy. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Spring for the deluxe Nohea if you want a romantic nest. It's a piece of art! For families, Kah...

Stayed there a couple of weeks ago with my niece. The bungalow was perfect & Kathryn was so helpful & informative. She is a wealth of information about the volcano area & the Big Island in general. The place was very clean & cozy. Loved the heated bed pads, so the beds were nice & toasty. It had everything you could possibly need for your stay. It is close to all things Volcano, had dinner at the Volcano House & breakfast at the Kilauea Lodge, both great!!! Wish we could have stayed longer, we loved the Bungalow!! Will definitely stay here again.

We stayed in Kahi Malu which had 2 bedrooms. There was great attention to every detail. They even had heated bed pads to keep you comfy. The cottage was clean and well furnished. It had everything you could ask for down to a collection of Hawaiian CD 's and videos of the volcano. The woodworking in the cottage was outstanding. It was obviously a labor of love.

Kathyrn was extremely helpful and a font of information. We loved this place and will definitely return to it when we visit Volcano again.

The two-bedroom Volcano Bungalow turned out to be perfect for us--a couple and a single. You feel like you're living in a secluded jungle cottage, there is so much greenery. The kitchen us fully equipped, including with cereals and condiments. We brought our food with us and it was great to make our breakfast and dinners here and make sandwiches for lunch. There is a living room with tv and dvd's of the various eruptions, and an iron stove to warm up the room. Each queen bed has an electrical warmer.

Kathryn was exceptionally helpful. Not only did she come greet us and give great touring advice, but she had given me lots of touring advice about the island before we came so I could make my plans.

We were able to come back in 15 minutes from the Jaggar Museum for brief rest stops or stay out as long as we wanted. We stayed for 3 nights and spent 2full days in the park.

I strongly recommend this place and would come again.

We stayed in the Nohea cottage for 3 night in Oct. The place is beautiful. The pictures on-line don't do it justice; it is truly a work of art. Kathryn (the owner) was very helpful and made us feel like this was our "home." These are the things we liked best about the cottage: the tropical jungle location was remote, private, beautiful, and a 5 minute drive from the VNP entrance; the kitchen was stocked and cereal, spices, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc. at no charge; the filtered hot and cold water was the best we had in Hawaii; the double headed shower with additional jets (and a window out into the "jungle") was great; the king size bed had an electric mattress warmer (separate for each side); there was a small gas stove next to the TV that was cozy; soft, cuddly robes were provided, and there was a foot massage machine. The internet worked great, which meant that we could check the VNP webcam to determine if the view was good before we drove to the park at night to enjoy the volcano view.
