we stayed in Kate's cottage for 4 nights. it is very close to the park, and about an hour to Pahoa where you can get the lava boat tours, or and lava hikes. the cottage is very nice, with nice kitchen, bath and living space. nice lanai outside with table to eat outside. kitchen is stocked with cereals, tea, coffee, also a box of mauna loa chocolate covered mac nuts-yummy! there is a hair dryer, and other things like gloves, headlamps, even bandages. lots of videos about the volcano and library, maps etc. bed is very comfortable. nice and cool in evening. really enjoyed this place.

My husband and I stayed in Kate's Volcano Cottage for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. We loved the inn and were so glad we stayed there! It is more remote than I had anticipated, but this simply added to the peace and relaxation we experienced. KVC had all of the amenities we needed--it was extremely helpful to have a place to make coffee, store our leftovers, and cook a little. KVC is stocked with coffee, dry cereals, and other essentials, which was great. It was also extremely reasonably priced.

During our stay on the Big Island, we covered A LOT of ground (300 miles in 3 days!). We explored Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the Puna district, up to 'Akaka Falls, Mauna Kea, and down to the green sand beach. Volcano may have been out of the way in some respects, but it was central to all of these trips, and the peace and quiet made it well worth it.

Kathryn was a very warm and gracious host. She was very helpful when we asked her advice and when we needed anything. I highly recommend Kate's Volcano Cottage and Volcano Places, particularly if you're visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park!

Room Tip: Kate's Volcano Cottage was rather large, including a king sized bed, a large sitting area, a lar...

We stayed in Kate's Volcano Cottage and were very pleased. The Cottage is large and includes a small kitchen which allowed us to fix a simple meal from items purchased in Hilo. It is nestled in the rain forest but we didn't get much chance to enjoy the outside since it was raining during most of our visit. I guess that is what happens in a rain forest.

Kate was an excellent host without intruding. She did not come through with the information before we left the states but sent several emails once we arrived in the Islands to make sure we could find the property. We arrived very late due to an airline mix up and she left the key for us.

We stayed at the Bungalow in March 2013. For 2 adults + 2 kids - the bungalow was perfect. Kate stopped by and explained everything about the bungalow. The lanai was beautiful, bungalow was stocked with extra blankets and everything. It helped to stay in the village and not in Hilo as we could start our day early and go to the park. We even went to the farmers market in volcano village. Loved every bit of our stay there. We have not stayed in any other place there - but I doubt I would have gotten such personalised information anywhere.

The Wright Place is just that -a right place to stay in Volcano. Kathryn is a lovely manager who provided very useful information and made sure we had everything we needed. The place was well furnished, cosy and fully equipped. The bed was most comfortable, thick and the bedding/ linen was of excellent quality. A nice touch was the box of chocolates that Kathryn left for us. Being in amongst the lush forest was great. Slept well and the night trip into the park was a highlight.

If you stay In Volcano, this is the place to stay. Recommend staying at least 2 nights to see the park.

A tip - to eat the Kealeu Lodge resturant, make sure you book in advance.

Both the town and the cottage (Nohea) are wonderful. Katheryn is an especially gracious and conscientious host and the cottage is beautiful, comfortable, very well equipped and located very near HVNP. We can't wait to stay here again. By far, my favorite place I have stayed on all of the islands.

Just spent 4 nights in Kate's Cottage, and like the other reviews I found it near perfect. Beautiful timber studio cottage with full kitchen, comfortable, warm (gets cold here!) lovely host Kathyn, comfortable king bed, in a very quiet forest setting. Just a pleasure to come back to after exploring Kilauea which is only 10 mins away. Highly recommend. Only minor fault is the wi fi is a bit hit and miss, and the AT &T reception only just works - neither faults of the accommodation provider. But that aside, gorgeous!
