We arrived in the middle of torrential rain. Be prepared with rain gear, good walking shoes and cozy clothes! The wind was strong and the viewing was limited but we saw the culdera and the glow of molten lava-it was thrilling. During our visit to the museum, we happened upon a traditional dance performance of lovely Hawaiian dancers doing traditional dances. It was a delightful surprise-how lucky we were to be there! Cost $10 per car -what a deal!!

Enjoyed the museum, especially like the fact that it was open later in the evening when we went to see the volcano!

How wonderful to live on an island with an active volcano in its National Park and this museum on the edge of a major crater with Halemaumau Caldera steaming in the distance. Recently expanded, the museum displays have been renewed and the gift shop expanded.

Museum really explained a lot about the volcano and the night views of the lava's steam were great. I'd recommend

Great viewing of the crater. On our visit we were able to see the active steam plume from the crater which glows orange after dark and reminds one just how close you are to an active volcano!
