Would have liked to have stayed a couple of more nights. Garvin and Laura where very gracious hosts. The room we stayed in had a king bed and 2 twins in another room.Very very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Hot tub could have been 2 degrees warmer. Room was supplied with all necessary amenities including lots of coffee.

This is the place to stay. Just a few short miles out of the city of Hilo, easily accessible off the main road but when you're at the house, you're in the country. Everything is quiet, peaceful and welcoming. Laura and Garvin are thE perfect hosts. The accommodations are clean, modern and the rooms beautifully appointed. Breakfasts are stunning. Plenty of room on the property to relax in a hammock, swing or hot tub. Speaking of hot, the water is solar heated and there's plenty of it. The Goodes grow some of the fruit you'll see on your breakfast tray. They are CSA farmers and have a donkey family and a boar if you're wanting a few new friends. Gorgeous view of Hilo Bay.

I've mentioned just a few highlights here -- take a moment to read other reviews. In your heart you know the Goodes work very hard to earn the Excellent reviews but when you're there, they make it appear effortless. And trust me, you will feel very special because that's how they treat you.

We had a great time at this very lovely B&B. They were both very accomadating - given that I never quite got over jet lag :) It was an excellent location for doing all things volcano. They also had some great recommendations for resturants that were all excellent as well. The breeze through the place was magnificent!! Would definetly go back, it is a beautiful place.
thanks to all.

This B&B is a winner. We had a large, very clean, very comfortable room (the Mauna Kea) with a fridge, coffee maker, microwave, etc. But we didn't need these things on our all-too-short stay, because the breakfasts provided were lovely. Lots of homemade baked goods and fresh tropical fruit - even lilikoi! Scrambled eggs too, on request. And extra coffee.
We checked out and left our bags for a few hours, and when we went back to get them, Garvin and Laura not only allowed us to use the B&B's excellent wireless internet - they even offered to print out our next-flight boarding passes. The restaurants they recommended were very good, too. Next time, we'll try to get the Hilo Bay room, which has a fabulous view, but the Mauna Kea room was very pleasant. Loved it.

We had had a bit of a disaster with accommodation before finding this perfect retreat. Garvin was very hospitable and understanding of our situation. The rooms he showed us were a haven from where we had been previously. We chose to stay in the one bedroom apartment style accommodation. The comfort level was A+ as was the breakfast provided daily with fresh fruit and baked goods. We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed every moment. The attention to detail is exceptional. The location just outside of Hilo was perfect - close enough to town and other areas of interest but far enough away for privacy and relaxation. Garvin's directions were spot-on and were so easy to follow. Thanks to Garvin & Laura for providing such a wonderful place to stay and making our visit so enjoyable, especially at such short notice.

Garvin and Laura are extremely friendly and hospitable.
We loved our stay at Island Goode's.
Our room was spacious, clean and furnished with taste and had a view of Hilo and the bay and banana plantation at the back.
The breakfast was very yummy with many different tropical fruit grown on their own farm.
We definitely recommend this B&B!

We stayed on the island for 8 days. We stayed 7 days in Kailua-Kona and 1 day in Hilo and stayed at Island Goode's while visiting the east side of the island. It is quite a beautiful property with lush landscaping. We visited Akaka Falls before checking in (the falls are very close), and were a little wet upon arrival. We were greeted warmly by Garvin upon our arrival. He walked us through the room, pointing out all of the amenities of the room, the property and surrounding area. I was surprised that a little styrofoam cooler was left in the room for guest use. I found this very thoughtful! The shower had shampoo/conditioner/body wash which smelled fantastic! Garvin and Laura also put together a booklet with local restaurants which was really helpful.
Laura then came in with some fresh flowers to make the room look even prettier!

We stayed in the Mauna Kea room (it has 2 rooms that shares a bathroom). The king bed was sooo comfortable! My mother in law also enjoyed her night's sleep in the other room. The breakfast the next day was out of this world. There was plenty of fresh fruit, bran muffins, biscotti, eggs, portuguese sausage, coffee and juice. I believe much of the fruit is grown on their property, and the baked goods were homemade as well. It was a delicious way to start our day.

The location is ideal - very close to Hilo, Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, Volcano National Park. I would definitely stay here again!

My only regret is that we only stayed one night!

Room Tip: I don't think you can go wrong here!
