This is an incredible B&B. The owners are extremly nice. The B&B is on a working farm. But, not really noticible. The owners will give you a tour if you like. We had our 2 year old and he loved seeing donkeys, pigs, fish and chickens. The rooms are very nice with comfortable beds. The breakfast in the morning is delicious. Great location, just a few minutes to get into town. We can't wait to visit this B&B again.

Island Goode was really a home from home which was a delight after long days out sighseeing. Breakfast on the outside patio was a perfect start to the day, and how delicious those breakfasts were.

We had the perfect level of privacy here. Garvin met us when we arrived late in the evening and Laura delivered the wonderful breakfast every morning. Both were really helpful with suggestions of where to visit and restaurants. Laura also very kindly helped us with some washing and allowed us to leave our luggage for the day when we checked out.

Yes, the tree frogs are very noisy and the double-glazing well and truly blocked the noise out so we slept really really well. There is a hot-tub outside which we never had time to use.

This B&B is perfectly located for the better waterfalls which are north of Hilo, as well as the Hawaiian Botannical Gardens. There's not so much to do in Hilo town other than a couple of museums and Rainbow falls on the other side of Hilo, all of which can be easily reached from this location.

On a trip to Hawaii to visit family, we opted to NOT stay at a hotel due to negative reviews. We are so happy we stayed at ISLAND GOODE'S B&B!!! It is about 7 miles outside of Hilo and the driving directions the Goode's provided were accurate (it was already dark). Garvin and Laura Goode are wonderful hosts. We were in the "Hilo Bay Room" a very large and beautifully decorated room with a large bathroom with a tub/shower. A small refrigerator is provided and stocked with bottled water. Satellite TV is included. The grounds are lush with orchids and tropical plants which enhances the fantastic view of the Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. Each morning, Laura brought us a delicious island breakfast of fresh fruits, muffins, coffee and juice that we enjoyed on the patio.

I highly recommend ISLAND GOODE'S B&B for your stay in the Hilo area. The accommodations are FIRST CLASS and the personal touch they provide is a refreshing change from a hotel. Did I mention the queen-size bed is a "Sleep Number" bed? We slept like babes! However, if you feel you need air-conditioning to keep you really cool, you will not find it here. But we did not feel a need for it since there are plenty of fans and windows to allow us to enjoy the fresh island air! At night, it was very cool and I had to turn the fans off; during the day, the trade wind breeze was refreshing and the temperature never rose above 85 degrees.

We will definitely return to ISLAND GOODE'S on our next trip to Hilo, Hawaii. They made our trip extra special!

We stay in B&B whenever possible and this place is awesome. It's perfectly located just outside of town allowing for peaceful night listening to the frogs rather than air conditioners. Easy to set out for day trips. Laura and Garvin are friendly and share their favorite "must see" spots. Which by the way are perfect. This is like home but with way better breakfasts! Their farm with animals and crops really gives you a great example of sustainable farming.

This B&B is just 5.3 miles outside of downtown Hilo...and in my opinion is close enough to be considered in Hilo. The hosts (Garvin and Laura) have a few things running at their place that make it more than your average B&B. They have acres of land which they have an eco-farm (organic) on. They have wild donkeys, pigs, fish, hundreds of chickens (fresh eggs) and grow tons of food (apple bananas, hybrid corn, passion fruit, mangos, coffee, coconuts, etc.) that some of it ends up in your breakfast. They both gave us a fun tour of farm that we were able to sample some of what they grow. Be sure to wear mosquito repellant during the tour as we got bit up...yet they don't seem to bite Garvin or Laura...why?!? :) OK, back to the review... We were in the Hilo Bay room and were able to have our 8 year old son sleep on a blow up mattress that they provided. Bed was comfortable and the room was big and very nicely decorated. It had a mini-fridge and Laura was able to accomodate our need for a freezer block by using the freezer outside. On our trip, we were going to leave SUPER early (3:15AM) to go see the lava glow at the Volcano National Park and the room is about an hour away, so we were going to skip our breakfast, but Laura brought us goodies (along with baggies) to bring along the night before we left. That is just great service. On the 2nd night we stayed, we woke to a fantastic breakfast filled with strawberries, pineapple, mango, scrambled eggs, muffins, pastries, juice, and coffee. By the way, the place comes alive with sound at night...frogs, geckos, crickets, etc. I personally liked hearing it all before we went to sleep, but chose to close the windows (dual paned) during bed time. Overall, we would definitely stay at this B&B again and thank Garvin and Laura for being such great hosts!

Room Tip: Hilo Bay room has the best view of the bay.

We stayed with Laura and Garvin for 3 nights, the room was spotless and roomy, the bed large and very comfortable. Breakfast, served on our private terrace, was a wonderful surprise : freshly baked pastries (cinnamon rolls, banana muffin etc.), a great selection of tropical fruits from their farm (pineapple, rambutan, lychees, mangoes etc.). Laura was also a great source of advice and tips; we possibly would not have gone to Richardson's beach without her recommendation. People will surely mention the frogs as a plague of Hilo but Garvin and Laura have installed double-glazed windows (and very good ventilators so it is never stuffy) so you don't hear a thing. I slept like a baby every night.

We were referred to Island Goode"s B&B through another B&B because the Merrie Monarch Festival had everything tied up. We were indeed lucky to find this jewel of Papaikou (outside Hilo) which was perfect in location, service and friendliness.

Room Tip: The Mauna Kea rooms were a great deal.
