“Great tea, fantastic views, gracious and knowledgable host.”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

In looking for a replacement for the Chinese teas we stumbled across the up and coming Hawaii tea industry. We had a vacation planned for Kona and set about finding tea plantations in Hawaii engaged in organic and sustainable practices. Thankfully, we came across Onomea Tea Company and decided to pay a visit! It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. We got to tour the grounds and learn a lot about the various types of teas grown on plantation, the adaptations being made for Hawaiian growing conditions, and a little about the selection, breeding, growing, and harvest process for teas.

Next we got an explanation and tour of the rest of tea process including how different varieties of teas are processed. Finally, we get to do a tea tasting with a stunning view of the cliffs and the bay with fresh warm scones and homemade lilikoi butter and other jams.

I would absolutely recommend visiting if in Kona!

“Highlight of our trip!”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

Visting the Big Island with my family (2 parents and 3 adult siblings) and my mother had an ardent wish to visit a tea plantation, so just before leaving Hilo, we contacted Onomea, and they were incredibly accommodating, hosting an experience we will never forget. From our very first minutes on the property, we were so warmly welcomed, and completely enraptured... Gorgeous grounds, fascinating info, and a lovely tea service in the owners beautiful home - complete with freshly baked melt-in-your-mouth scones... be sure to sample Rob's homemade lilikoi butter!

“Tea tasting was fascinating and so much more...”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We spent the afternoon at Onomea Tea Company, learning about growing, harvesting and processing tea. This was followed by tasting and learning about green tea, oolong, black tea and fermented teas with delicious freshly made scones, homemade lilikoi butter and another local fruit jam. What a lovely want to learn, while sitting and watching some of the most striking views on the Big Island. Mahalo to tea planters Rob and Mike for a truly memorable experience.

“Views, Amazing Tea, Amazing Gourmet Dinner”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

On our May visit to Hawaii, our group of 10 friends booked a tour and dinner at the Tea Plantation. You are greeted by the 2 chef/hosts/owners and treated to a wonderful tour of their tea planting and harvesting areas along with their personal stories of the area and their pilgrimage from the mainland USA to developing this plantation. And, as sunset approaches, you may book dinner cooked and served on their 2nd floor balcony overlooking the sea, cliffs and tea growing area. We had a fabulous multi-course dinner, appetizers and, of course, tea with sweets at the end! This was our hands-down favorite of all dinners on our trip including our night at the 4 seasons in Maui. This is a must!
