Owner description: The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. “Breathtaking!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

Loved this place. My husband can't walk very far, but loves all things botanical. We were so happy to discover that a golf cart is available to take us part of the way into the gardens and then bring us back up. there is a $5 charge, but so worth it. It made it possible for us to see so much more. There are also plenty of places to sit and rest. Also a good idea to use some bug spray or purchase the wipes in the gift shop. It was all so beautiful. Loved seeing the series of waterfalls making their way to the ocean.

“Year round beauty”

If you would like to see what old Hawaii use to look like then go here or Akaka Falls as they both are truly majestic. The gardens are a bit pricy and the falls are inexpensive.

“Stunning”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

Came across this place while driving the "4 Mile Scenic Drive" just north of Hilo. The cost was $15/person to enter, which I thought was a little expensive until we entered the Gardens. All I can say is Wow! if you have any love for Flowers, Plants or trees then this is a must not miss tour. The plants are from all over the world and are labeled, the walk isn't that difficult but may be a little strenuous on some when it come to leaving as the walk starts up at the Drive and winds its way down to the Ocean so when leaving the climb is fairly steep. They were offering insect repellent for sale at the front counter? did not see a bug so glad I didn't buy it.

“Beautiful!”

This is the most beautiful collection of tropical plants and flowers I have ever seen. Lots of walking and the entry/exit is really steep.

“Fantastic flowers and view of bay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

If you like flowers and a really nice waterfall, don't miss this one. Self guided tour, with moderate exertion. They do offer gold cart rides to/from the lower areas for a nomia fee. Plan to spend
1-1/2 to 2 hours.
