“Very nice accommodation/ perfect spot!”
Reviewed August 29, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Perfect spot, wonderful accommodation with dream view. Very well equipped and nicely furnished. Very quiet and idyllic location with stunning view. If we will ever have the chance to return to Hawaii we will for sure return here.

“Such a special place.”
Reviewed February 24, 2017 for a stay in February 2017

This is an amazing home! The view is incredible and the amenities are, too.
From the beautiful bathroom with slipper tub, to the baby grand in the living room with a truly interesting history, to the seclusion of the huge lot, this is a unique rental.
The kitchen is very modern and well equipped, the bedroom is large, comfortable and has lots of closet space.
So nice to come back in the evening after a day of sightseeing to enjoy hanging out in the hot tub and watch the stars. Sunrises are equally spectacular. We also loved falling asleep listening to the waves and the occasional peep of the coqui frogs.
The management company are great to deal with. You just couldn't ask for more.

This was our second stay at Onomea Bay Cliffside Cottage. There were two updates from our last stay a room air conditioner and a room darkening curtain. Both appreciated.
We love the privacy of this cottage. The kitchen is well appointed ( just missing a pizza cutter).
Watching the sunrise every morning and waking up to birdsong and being lulled to sleep by the ocean and the coqui frogs was delightful.
One thing we wished for in our first visit was a small gas grill so we bought one for the cottage and hope other guests will enjoy it as much as we did.
The cottage is being well maintained. One thing to note is the cottage is on the Hawaiian Air flight path and Blue Hawaiian helicopter tours that go to the falls. This didn't bother us though.
It is about a 10 to 15 minute drive to Hilo. There is a nice Safeway for groceries or the KTA super store. Many nice restaurants to choose from.
First visit - Volcano National Park, Akaka and rainbow falls, the botanical garden, Kapoho tidal pools, Green sand beach, a visit to Kapalana and many other beaches.
Second visit - VNP at night (definitely a must to see the lava dance in the caldera), Waipio valley shuttle tour, Carlsmith beach park- loved this, green turtles swim near you, Panaewa zoo, Hilo Coffee Mill, The Big Island Candy store and The Hawaiian Vanilla company.
Love the Hilo side so much better than the Kona side!
Hope to return again and again....

“Ideal private getaway.”
Reviewed August 31, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Perfectly secluded house on a cliff surrounded by tropical forest and amazing ocean views. Enjoyed the night skies from the jacuzzi and the sunrise from the deck. Relaxed reading on the hammock. Perfect location to explore Hilo and the volcanoes.

“Heaven in Paradise the Real Hawaii”
Reviewed August 14, 2016 for a stay in May 2014

I booked this trip for myself and my mother. It was the best trip of our lives, to wake up everyday to your own view of the ocean and no one else around was amazing. Of course, the rainbows were beautiful along with all the unincorporated towns we visited. One day was spent at Pearl Harbor as my mom wanted me to see it, but what chaos it was there compared to Hilo. My mother loved it and the owners are spit on with this rental, god bless them for it.
I would come back over and over again for the beauty of the island and their house. I thank them for the best trip of our lives, as my mother passed not long after this trip. So thanks to them my mother loved every moment we spent at their house. Price is so reasonable as well for people who can't afford rich places, but they are missing out as the owners are such great people to share their beautiful house with us all.

What a moving and beautiful review, Rose. I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I'm with the property management team but I am going to forward this to the home owners right now. Onomea Cliffside Cottage is so special to them and they work hard to create a wonderful space for others to enjoy and make make life long memories. I know your words will mean a lot to them. Again, Mahalo and Warmest Aloha to you and your family from all of us at Hawaii Holiday.

What a great get-away! Our experience at the cottage was absolutely amazing, and the view is incomparable. From the back deck (preferably while enjoying the Jacuzzi), you see nothing but trees, the gorgeous ocean bay, and an occasional gecko. The property is located 10-12 minutes north of Hilo, so it's somewhat isolated, but about a quarter-mile off the main road. The cottage itself was immaculate, and very "open-air". We can't think of one thing we would change about this property or our stay here. Only one bedroom, perfect for two people. A wonderful experience at the jewel of the Big Island.

“Private cottage with panoramic ocean view”

This place was phenomenal! Its beautiful decor and amenities made it feel like a real home and not just a vacation rental. Photos on web sites show the space as it really is. The one thing hard to tell was if there are any houses around. There are not! You enter the drive off the end of a cul-de-sac and pass a small caretaker’s cottage on the way to the house, on the same property. And then the view is 180 degrees over the cliff. No houses visible from anywhere unless you venture out on to the grassy yard and look back toward the caretaker’s cottage. Careful thought was put into the site plan of the home to maximize ocean views and preserve privacy.
The hot tub was clean and well maintained. We used it every night to soothe sore muscles after hiking in Volcanoes Park and elsewhere. Fortunately we had sunny weather most of the week and enjoyed brilliant stars off the deck and sun and moon rises over the ocean. Breathtakingly beautiful!
The kitchen was well equipped. Grocery stores are only about 15 minutes away in Hilo. The charcoal grill was a little frustrating; a gas grill would be better. Eating out on the covered patio was a pleasure both for breakfasts and dinners. The latter was enhanced by dimmable lighting, as the sun set around 6:00 in December. No mosquitoes here so the outdoors could be utilized at any time. Geckos will visit indoors and out.
We stayed two different places during our two week stay on the island and would choose this place to come back to on our next visit.
