“Great B&B”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

This was our second visit to this B&B. Very clean, comfortable and the owners are great. The breakfast was awesome. If you are considering staying on the volcano side you should definitely consider staying here.

Living in metroplitan, Coconut Cottage is definitely something special to us. I felt like staying in the rainforest, surrounding by coconut trees, and huge flora which can only find in Hawaii. The rooms are not only clean, but decorated with "characteristic" (we stayed in Bali room and Garden bungalow),which is quite different from regular hotel rooms. The mattress is great (it's very important to me). Frogs singing lullabies every night, along with the rain, which I treat that as a gift from mother nature to put me to sleep. The owners, Doug and Jamie are friendly, helpful and informative. They are excellent in dealing with kids. (My kid is very shy and never said a word during our 3 days stay, but he missed them). If you get bored at nite, borrow a DVD from the study. Pahoa is not far from Hawaii Volcano National Park. There are a few beaches nearby, on a beautiful scenic route. We swam in hot pond, the water is warm even in Februray, and it's safe for kids with some fishes to see.

My travelling companion and I spent three nights at the Coconut Cottage B&B in the Bali Suite. We were greeted with a huge smile and a very warm "Welcome!" by Jamie. The room was gorgeous, complete with two beds from Bali, a step up shower, and a private entrance. Doug prepared an amazing breakfast three mornings in a row. Jamie and Doug were very knowledgeable of the area and provided great recommendations for both attractions as well as area restaurants. Each morning, they were both very excited to hear about what we had done the day before and what plans we had for the day. All of the guests were happy and complimentary towards Jamie and Doug. Our stay here was the perfect end to an amazing trip!

Room Tip: The Bali Suite offered a private entrance which was nice.

We could only swing one night at this great find, Next time we hope to stay longer.
Roomy and comfortable accommodations. Yummy Breakfast. We ate a great meal on Jaime's recommendation, and enjoyed some local spots she shared as well.

Our hosts, Jaimie and Doug were lovely, just wonderful. Breakfast was fun and travellers were able to share tips with each other. We stayed in the hibiscus room which was very private, spacious, and soothing. The DVD collection for late night vegging is spectacular. You can rent good snorkel gear cheaply here and get great local tips on where to go. We will be back!

Wonderful hospitality and an unexpected gem of a top chef! We lucked into two nights at Coconut Cottages B&B after realizing our original lodging was not ideal for our two-year-old toddler. Doug and Jamie welcomed us and our little one with open arms. And the unexpected treat: Doug is a master chef who creates fantastic breakfasts as well as delicious dinners on request.

We had stayed in another lovely B&B elsewhere on the island where they served us lovely fresh fruit and fresh baked bread daily. I was happy but the Mrs likes a savory breakfast. What a wonderful treat to be hosted by an accommodating and versatile chef who bakes great breads, serves a generous variety of local fruits and offers made to order frittatas. And did I mention Doug's excellent made from scratch pizzas for dinner? (The pizzas are $12 which is a bargain in our view.)

We stayed in a cottage behind the main house which was very large, comfortable, super clean and well-maintained. Personally, I might knock off a little for it being a bit suburban (and don't flush the toilet when someone is showering) but the furnishings are lovely, the grounds are beautiful and we were most comfortable. (Although if you don't like air fresheners, you might ask they be removed before your stay. I'm sensitive to those and was readily accommodated.)

Meanwhile, for us, Jamie's and Doug's hospitality made this a five-star experience. Jamie and Doug were fantastic with our toddler and we really enjoyed their company as well. They are consummate hosts at a very lovely B&B.

Our stay at the Coconut Cottage Bed and Breakfast was very enjoyable in every way. We stayed in the detached bungalow. Everything was provided to ensure very relaxing, comfortable nights in clean, well-kept surroundings. The grounds of the property are lush and well maintained. Jaime, the manager of the inn, is gracious, warm, and welcoming. The breakfasts we had on both mornings were spectacular: fresh fruit, banana or apple macadamia nut pancakes, and sausage the first morning; stellar omelets, banana bread baked fresh that morning, potato pancakes, and a platterful of more fresh fruit on the second morning. We also enjoyed the opportunity to get to know another couple of fellow travelers as we shared our fantastic breakfasts together around a large table on a very comfortable, enclosed, airy, porch. The Coconut Cottage Bed and Breakfast is a piece of paradise, and we strongly recommend it to anyone who is traveling in the Hilo-Pahoa area.

Room Tip: The bungalow is detached from the house and provides a very comfortable and relaxing setting.
