This was a surpisingly superb restaurant. Unpretentious, but very tasty Italian dishes. Our host was very friendly. Attentive waitress.

The homemade pasta melts in your mouth, especially the dish infused with squid ink. Portions are large and we had enough for a second meal a couple of nights later at the home we rented nearby. A great find at fair prices, about 30 per cent less than what you would pay at Kona resorts for a comparable meal. Staff is friendly and attentive. No wine sold so BYOB.

Yum Yum

Our B&B recommended Baolo's and we're glad they did. It was wonderful, we both had their home made ravioli. The make their own pasta and it was great. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring a bottle of wine and they will serve it for a $5.00 corkage fee.

I live near Pahoa so Paolo's is my local. The Hilo side of the island is not well served with fine dining, so Paolo's is like a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere is rural Italy, and the food is traditional Italian at it's best. Simple, fresh, and strong in flavor together with table clothes, and pictures of Rome on the walls. Paolo, the owner and chef is a well traveled, charismatic jazz loving, soccer fan who loves to talk to his customers. If you are form Europe, you'll feel right at home. If you are from the US or elsewhere, this is the real deal so try it.

Very fresh and very authentic Italian restaurant. Food was cooked by Paolo (the owner and chef) himself and it really tastes authentic. Reasonably priced in a quaint setting. Almost every dish we tried was very good to excellent. Seafood was surprisingly fresh and unique dishes like black pasta were really delicious!
