Enjoyed the tide pools and will be back to explore more. Those who said to wear shoes - yes, but do NOT walk on the coral. BAD, bad karma if you do! Not nearly the fish or coral as on the W. side of the island, but since it was close by, we stopped by. Good for beginner snorkeling but only if they know to not stand up on coral. Oh, do bring $3 per car to pay for road upkeep/parking/cleaning behind people that don't, since locals must do this - there is no park service.

I could hardly wait to see this place and indeed, it is beautiful, calm tide pools great for snorkeling and swimming. But for those of you who visit here with rental vehicles, please exercise caution. After my husband and I enjoyed 3 hrs in and around the tide pools, we returned to find our vehicle window smashed and items stolen. Thieves target these areas where the vehicles are not visible to the beach and they target rental vehicles with the sticker on the windshield. Parking is scarce here and even though we were on a public residential street in broad daylight, it didn't matter. So please take all your valuables with you to the beach and leave nothing in your vehicle unless in the trunk. We learned a hard lesson so I only wanted to try and help others who visit here so they don't waste their vacation time dealing with police and rent-a-car companies.

These tide pools offer opportunity for different levels of snorkel explorers. There are deep pools for newer snorkels to explore with an abundance of fish. More experienced snorklers might feel comfortable in the shallower pools, but be careful coral is extremely sharp! Some areas have the volcanic heat offering a nice jacuzzi type reprieve, but also creates interesting visual blur. In areas the coral is fantastic and of variety. Probably the best snorkeling in the area.

Remember to never stand on coral, it will kill it. Also, sunscreen is a good idea, but put it on 20 minutes before you enter the water so you don't create an oil slick which is also detrimental to the sea critters.

The parking is a small lot in a residential area. Come early as it is crowded in the afternoon. The lot is maintained by a private group, make a donation, it's worth it.

These tide pools lived up to the rave reviews of others. Fish were not as abundant as some other sites we snorkeled, but were more diverse. Or perhaps I only saw more of them because it was so easy to stay in place in these pools since I wasn't being pushed around by the waves. Bring footgear like lava walkers.

The tide pools were great. Bring your snorkle and a pair of water shoes. This is a residential area so be mindful of that and be prepared to walk accross lava rocks to get to the pools.
