We loved staying in this tropical retreat. We had the small room & it was more than adequate for a good night's sleep, large walk in closet, delicious coffee & tea in room, handy little fridge and the outdoor community patio is right out the door. Fresh delicious breakfast started each day of adventure along with great local advice from Petra. Just what we hoped for and more.

Orchids and more orchids: Hale Moana B & B mirrored our previous breathtaking Hawaii botanical gardens outings. The estate's park like setting is impressive, but host Petra steals the limelight. Starting with a creative breakfast, the only shortcoming was the length of our stay. Three days was too short. Petra's dining and activities recommendations and her friendly conversation was priceless. She has a special knack with her guests; everyone becomes like family.

Room Tip: Our top floor was spacious, private, and offered anice view of Hale Moana's park like setting

Hale Moana is a wonderful place to stay. Petra is a warm and inviting host who is very knowledgeable about the region and eager to share. She thought of our every need. Her breakfasts were delicious, with fresh, exotic fruit from her own gardens every morning. The grounds are beautiful, with immaculate lawn and tropical flora. We stayed in the Garden Suite (Petra brought in a very comfortable portable bed for our son) and found it to be very private, very lovely. It was nice to have the kitchen area. Hale Moana is a perfect place to stay if you plan to take a lava boat tour (incredible) or hike out to see active flow. While Puna is a bit quieter than some of the other areas in Hawaii, we found this to be a wonderful advantage. There are many beautiful spots to visit that we would have otherwise missed. Petra recommended a farmer's market on Sunday which was very fun and where we met several friendly people. Just driving in the areas south of the B & B was a wonderful adventure. A very special place.

Room Tip: Garden Suite was perfect for three -- Petra brought in a very comfortable bed which did not interrup...

We recently stayed 3 nights at the Hale Moana and it was a great find. My husband and our two kids 18 and 16. We stayed in the Lanai suite because we needed 3 beds. Petra goes above and beyond with being helpful, great breakfast, and well stocked amenities. Since we only choose to stay on the Big Island for 3 nights we stayed on the Hilo side and enjoyed the rainforest, the National Park, and Pahoa. All of Petra's recommendations were wonderful from restaurants, sights, and directions. If you are looking for an affordable stay on that side of the island this is your place. Mahalo,

The best and only place to stay on the big island. Our host petra greeted us with a warm welcome . It was like staying with friends and not at a bed & breakfast. Close to everything and petra is very helpful with suggestions of what to do and where to go to see everything and the breakfast as good if not better than eating at home. Thank you to petra for opening your place to us

Great B&B! Petra is very welcoming. She gave us good tips about the area (+ maps, snorkeling gear, flashlights...) and we enjoyed her breakfast. Our room (the studio) was very comfortable and clean (I love the big bottles of shampoo and conditioner in the shower! Way better/greener than using small hotel-style bottles). Listening to the sound of nature at night was fantastic! If we come back to the Big Island one day, we'll definitely stay with Petra again!

This was a great little find in a quiet, secluded area. The grounds were amazingly immaculate. This was a great place as we saw many of the sites on the East, South and even the West side of the Big Island. Petra was an unbelievablely gracious host and was very helpful. She provided us with a lot of local knowledge and extremely helpful guide/map books. Petra made a very delicious breakfast every day, which we really looked forward to each time. We would absolutely recommend this place to anyone and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Petra you are amazing!!! Petra, du bist unglaublich. Vielen Dank für alles. Петра, вы удивительны. Большое спасибо за все.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor in the Lanai suite. This was a beautiful room and very spacious. We...
