The setting was fabulous: a lush, roomy acreage convenient to Hilo and the Volcano in a very quiet residential area. The room we chose was very reasonable: small but spotless, with private bathroom, refrig & coffee-maker and large closet. Our hostess, Petra, was delightfully friendly and informative about everything we might want to do in the area, as well as the best routes around the island. We were given coupons for a percentage off at various restaurants in Pahoa. We stayed 3 nights & look forward to returning!

We enjoyed staying at Hale Makamae for a night during a trip around the island. The grounds are beautiful and it was quiet and exotic, even though it was in a neighborhood of sorts. Everything was comfortable and there was an excellent wi-fi connection, if you're in to that. Good breakfast... of course the fresh fruit in Hawaii is always awesome! The host was helpful, but not intrusive.

We loved every minute of our stay at Hale Makame B&B!! We would definitely go back, without a doubt. And we will be sending friends and family there as well. We enjoyed the suite we stayed in as well as the delicious breakfast and welcoming nature of Petra and John. We had the best nights sleep while we stayed here. Petra and John told us about the local resturants, the local beaches and the local culture. We loved the nearby area off of highway 137. The tide pools were my personal favorite of my entire 3 island visit. I will definitely go back when I visit Hawaii! It really could not have been a better experience! Thank you Petra and John for your hospitality.

Clean and well-equiped rooms, excellent WIFI, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast, huge, park-like garden around the house. Great swimming and snorchling opportunities close by on the coast.

Room Tip: Lanie suite.

We enjoyed our stay and the hospitality of the Hale Makamae B & B. Loved the gardens! Coming from dry mountain states, we really appreciated the all of rich greenery.

Our two night stay was wonderful, the first night we arrived we immediately felt welcomed by John and felt like he could have been an old friend of ours. After enjoying a wonderful breakfast made by Petra, they sat down with us to give us detailed information on great places to go and see. The place was so peaceful, the beds were comfortable, and a morning stroll in the immaculate gardens was a perfect start to the day. Thank you so much John and Petra, you both are so knowledgable, helpful and kindhearted, you made our stay very enjoyable and your place is highly recommended in our books. Take care, all the best....Lorne and Cindy

We couldn't imagine a nicer place to spend the tirst days of our Hawaii vacation. It is hard to find the first time but convenient to many interesting things in the area which the inn keepers will cheerfully point out. We had a lot of warm rain but it was a cozy place to be. The inkeepers have anticipated in advance very need.
