I ordered the fish sandwich and could smell it was bad when they brought it. When I finally got the waitress back I told her nicely the fish was not fit for human consumption, and they should be careful to get rid of it before someone got sick. "Oh no, it's fresh frozen and once it hits the freezer it tastes like that," she said. Well anyway, I was cool with it but insisted the chef try it so no one would get ill. They didn't. So after 25 trips to Hawaii I must say Luquins gets the worst ever meal award, but also the worst ever Mexican food I've had in my 60 years, it was incredibly bland and downright dangerous. There are better choices in Pahoa, or Hilo, or try fasting before you dine here.

This is a good sized, busy, cafe style set up restaurant in the center of the very small town of Pahoa, in the souteastern corner of the Big Island. We actually had trouble finding it, as the building has no big sign on the corner, indicating the name and type of restaurant. We asked a nearby shop owner, who directed us right to it.

Service is hit and miss, as it is so busy at the dinner hours, but you are never completely forgotten, the staff is friendly, and the food is worth it. Yummy, fresh tortilla chips and salsa are served to hold you over until your order arrives. Traditional mexican fare is served, decent sized portions and very tasty.

This is a recommend if you are going out to eat in this area. Food was about $12 to $15 pp before tax and tip.

Not the best Mexican food in the world, but worthy of 5-stars because it's close to home and the food is consistently good, plentiful and fairly priced..........

Pahoa is a fun little village. Very relaxed. The food at Luquin's was not bad at all and the Margarita's were pretty good too! Definitely recommended if you're on your way to the Lava fields, Lava Tree State Park or the Pahoa Tide Pool.
