“Sweet escape in quiet Pahoa”

We choose this wonderful place to stay while exploring the southeastern side of the big island. It was a special place not too far from Hilo. David was very welcoming as we arrived in the evening. He three canine companions were wonderful greeters as well. His place is a working farm and his grass 1/2 mile driveway was a bit of a wild ride for our standard rental car. We enjoyed checking in with him each morning before venturing out. His coffee, tea, and fresh fruit were delightful. Many rentals we have experienced are separate from the home owner, but David opens his house to you. We had our privacy in the massive bedroom and bathroom. I loved waking up to our guardian Lani (a beautiful German Shepherd) laying on the back deck just in front of the screen door. Our favorite excursion was taking the Hawaiian Lava Boat which was just a 15-20 drive from David's.

“A friendly Home away from Home!”

My Wife and I recently stayed here for 3 nights during our Honeymoon and loved every moment of our stay. We would highly recommend staying at David's place for the following reasons.

1) The Host! David is an amazing person with a very kind and friendly nature. My Wife and I both enjoyed having our morning chats with him before we headed out and David was always willing to offer help in case we needed it. On our 2nd day David kindly booked us Dinner at Volcano House which had an awesome view of the active Volcano, we definitely recommend this!

2) If you're a Dog person, the other Hosts! David had 3 cute little helpers named Lani, Lucky and Hatchi. All 3 are family friendly and really added something special to our stay. My Wife loved them a lot and it made our stay that much more memorable. :)

3) Clean house - David kept his property in good order, everything was clean. No problems here.

4) Fruit Breakfast - Each morning David would provide a refreshing Fruit Breakfast consisting of Papaya and Pineapple, of course with Tea and Coffee. This got us off to a great start for the day!

5) Great Location - Whilst the rental home is slightly outside Pahoa, about 10 minutes. Its very easy to get to. It is about 45 minutes from Hilo, so not a long journey when flying out either. In addition, the rental home is situated around lots of nice attractions close-by is the Ocean, Hot Springs (20 minutes), Tide Pools (25 minutes) and of course the Volcano! (about 40 minutes). If we had more time I'm sure we would have found other great locations. David will gladly help you plan where to go during your stay. Also, given its secluded nature you will see lots and lots of Stars at night, very beautiful indeed!

6) Good value - for the same price we wouldn't have enjoyed our stay anywhere else like we did here. This is truly a unique rental home.

We will definitely be back again some day, you will enjoy your stay here, trust me! :)

TIPs:

1) David charges $10 per laundry load, he has very good machines and the load size is very big. Worth taking advantage of this to maximise your luggage capacity.

2) When exploring the rest of the Island do not always rely on the Garmin GPS from the Car Rental Company. I found a combination of the Garmin GPS and Google Maps on my Phone worked best. Once you have your route set on Google Maps you can turn your data off, as long as the GPS is on the journey will track and you can stretch out your mobile data.

We just returned home from our stay at Peace and Tranquility. What a perfect blend of 1st class amenities and raw natural beauty! David was a perfect host, providing us with information on restaurants, sights, etc. that enabled us to make the best use of our time. He was available when needed but was very unobtrusive, we hardly knew he was there.

The rainforest suite was wonderful....perfect cross breezes, amazing fresh rainwater shower, and soothing night sounds that lulled us into a deep, relaxing sleep. Then to wake up to fresh papayas out of his yard and fresh pineapple......ahhhhh yes, this is the life!!

“Truly a peaceful and tranquil Retreat”

We stayed at Peace and Tranquility for two wonderful weeks. If you are looking for a quiet sanctuary out in the country as we were, then this is the place for you. David is accommodating and willing to share knowledge of the area and useful travel tips for sightseeing and dining. The bedroom is spacious, with good ventilation from the tradewinds and the bathroom is both spacious and beautiful. Bathing in rainwater was a definite plus for our skin. We really enjoyed our two-week stay and the snorkelling close by was a highlight.. However, with three dogs on the premise you need to be okay with dogs being around.

My partner and I stayed with David for several nights; he was an interesting, generous and entertaining host.

Our room was clean and spacious; he even had fresh cut flowers in the room awaiting our arrival. Breakfast was delightful....who includes breakfast anymore?

On top of being a good host, he was full of knowledge on the local area....He was always willing to provide useful tips.

You can't go wrong by stating with David and his three cute dogs.

“A Sanctuary!”
Reviewed January 21, 2016 for a stay in January 2016

The property is absolutely beautiful - overlooking the ocean. It is a sanctuary on earth! My husband and I stayed for three nights in the rain forest suite and enjoyed everything about our stay.

The house is only about 40 minutes from Hilo airport, but seems far from the bustle of civilization. Still, there are some nice restaurants nearby and we enjoyed delicious dinners every night.

David is the sweetest host. Every morning, he prepared tea, fresh Hawaiian fruit and juice for us. He is very knowledgeable about the island and whatever he recommended for sightseeing, dining and so forth were just right.

The volcano is just 45 minutes away. We enjoyed hiking the trail and dining at Volcano House.

Every night I enjoyed a hot "rain forest bath." The bath room is so spacious, beautiful and tranquil. The water is purified rain water and my skin became so soft after only three nights. All in all, we absolutely enjoyed our stay at this peaceful place with a great host.
