Looked dingy and a bit strange, I would say be careful here. You can swim at the boat ramp-we asked the locals who swam there, despite the sign not permitting this activity. There were a lot of strange characters around, maybe drug addicts or homeless, just did not look right to us, so I advise caution, otherwise nice to walk around and watch the surfers.

We visited this ocean view park to depart on the early morning lava boat tour. The view was exciting because huge waves were crashing due to a recent storm. We took several pictures of the beautiful beach and coast line. Clean, well kept park with good restroom facilities! Upon leaving for Pahoa Town we drove through the Mango Grove which was a fun tree tunnel.

This is a park which includes a boat launch area, swimming, and a shower area, where people seemed to be having as much fun as in the water. Away from the main tourist areas. Lots of people camp here, or picnic & swim for the day. It's not sandy (this is Big Island, near the Volcano) but the water here is calm, unlike a little ways out, and it's rather pretty with the various rock shapes.

Going to the Big Island can seem a waste if you can't find a way to get into the ocean or better yet get some sand between your toes. This beach park offers the ocean for play, surf, or boogie boarding. On the weekend come early and get a prime spot under a tree or off of the parking lot. Don't forget to bring your towels, a mat for cushion (lots of lava rock), food, drinks and everything else you need for the day. Food and drinks are available but can be expensive.

Isaac Hale is a family park. It gets crowded on week-ends and attracts surfers, fishermen and festive groups. If you eant a taste of the real Puna, it's the place to go. Ask the locals about their lives, you'll come away not just with memorable views, but with memorable stories and local lore.
