“Great Place, Great Hospitality, Great Breakfast”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Very nice place with great breakfast and great people. Gave good suggestions for visiting the local area, made us feel welcome and well taken care of but otherwise we really didn't even know they were there. Well organized, had masks and snorkels with beach towels to use and the place was very clean and comfortable. My wife left her wedding ring after taking it off to snorkel and her reading glasses and they found them and express mailed them to the mainland to us. Cannot say enough great things, would highly recommend it. I travel over 200 days a year and have high standards - they met and exceeded them in every way!

Spent 2 nights with Cindy and Rick who were gracious and wonderful hosts. Highlights were the Hilo side coffee and Cindy drying our clothes after our lava boat tour (highly recommend if you are an adventurer NOT prone to sea sickness). Very private setting. B'fast very tasty.

Ohia House is a great place to stay while exploring the lower Puna area. The room is large and comfy, and is even provided with kitchen gear for making simple lunches, heating leftovers etc. The lanai is pleasant too - great for relaxing and listening to the birds. And the breakfasts...huge and really delicious! The owners provided great advice for sightseeing and restaurants, and were a pleasure to talk with. Overall, a really good experience; we highly recommend this B&B.

The Ohia House is a wonderful Bed & Breakfast!! You are the only guests, so you get the undivided attention of the innkeepers. The breakfasts were wonderful, the room was clean and comfortable, the lanai was awesome, and the pool was invigorating.

Cindy was a wealth of knowledge on sights to see and the best places to eat. When we go back we will definitely be staying with Cindy in the Ohia House!!!

We have been travelling for 10 months and this was the last and the BEST place we've stayed...a fitting finale for our travelling odyssey. We raved about the breakfast, our hosts were a delight to talk to and very helpful. It was so very relaxing it was quite a job to get out and go sight seeing! Would highly recommend this lovely B&B in tropical paradise.

Oh...and did we mention the incredible breakfasts?

Room Tip: Only the one room ...you have full use and sole use of the pool etc... Just try to arrive in daylig...

Excellent B&B in this often overlooked area of the Big Island. Clean, pleasant separate room offers privacy. Breakfasts were delicious. Hosts were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to other travellers.

This is an excellent place from which to explore the Hilo / Volcano / Pahoa areas.

Don't forget to bring earplugs if the frogs are likely to keep you awake at night.

I don't think you could find anywhere better to stay in the Puna area. The Ohia House comprises one very-well-equipped guest room and a gorgeous big lanai. The room had everything! A microwave and fridge in so you could prepare your own dinner, beach towels, snorkels and masks etc. Furthermore they have a small swimming pool that you can use.

Cindy and Rick were excellent hosts and provided a wonderful, varied breakfast every day. All the ingredients were local and we were surprised by the plethora of exotic fruit. Cindy was also very helpful when we weren't having any luck getting through to the lava tours.

From the practical side, you will need a car (you'll need it for anywhere on the Big Island, frankly). The guest house is in the middle of the jungle and you'll need to drive for 10 minutes to Pahoa for restaurants and food. If you take a business card from the guest house, you get a 10% discount from your bill.

Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and if I can ever afford to trek back halfway across the globe again, I'll certainly return.
