“Absolutely incredible!!”
Reviewed June 7, 2013 via mobile

We knew going into this it was going to be a choppy and wet ride, so we came prepared. It was dark when we left the harbor, and seeing the steam and glowing lava entering the water was mind-blowing. The captain was absolutely skilled and incredible getting us as close as 30' to the lava flowing into the ocean. We were so close you could feel the heat of Pele's fury. The captain made sure to give both sides of the boat ample time for pictures and videos. We were able to see two entry points of the lava hitting the water. This is something we will never forget. Anyone who didnt have an incredible experience is absolutely out of their mind. There are no words to accurately describe the beauty of this natural wonder.

“Be prepared and have an adventure!”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Rough seas! Boat crashing up and down like white water rafting! Wind blown sea caking your face in salt sea! Billowing hot steam! Heat! Fumes! High speed (20 knots or more perhaps) wive riding across the ocean! And of course hot flowing lava splashing into the sea, from a view you won't find anywhere else on the planet! Adventure and excitement yes indeed. The captain prepared us by saying this isn't a dinner cruise, and thats good, because personally I find dinner cruises to be terribly dull. So, there's two types of people who will go on this trip: a) the people who read the above, and thought this sounded all jolly exciting, prepared themselves with water, Bonine (anti-sickness drug), waterproofs for themselves and camera, a warm jumper, a change of clothes and towel and most importantly a smile and sense of adventure. These people will love this and rate it 4 or 5. Then there are people who want to see lava while eating a nice 3 course meal from the comfort of their sofa; I suggest you google lava videos and sit at home; you'll save 200 dollars and save giving this outfit a 1 or 2 star review that doesn't match reality. Couple of points for the moaning minis - we went on rough seas; 3 to 4 foot waves common, occasional 6 footers (wheee!), with winds at 40 knots+. We sat at the back of the boat with a 4 year old girl who laughed all the way there, and was still happy after coming back in the dark, everyone sat on comfortably padded seats, nobody looked ill at the end, the captain and his mate where pretty chatty and certainly helpful. We saw lava flowing into the sea, pouring into the sea, mini-explosions, floating pumice, felt the hot water (mate pulls in a bucket full), billowing steam. You get in pretty close, perhaps within 12 feet (feels like 3...) and I was very impressed with the captains boat handling skills. You get about 15 to 20 minutes lava time, which is plenty; if you sit right at the back (for the smooth rides) you'll see less (they switch sides, don't worry) as the captains cabin obscures the view; the row in front is probably the best seat but they let people on by age (old or very young first, fit people last :-D). Highly recommended, _if_ you like adventure.

“Yeah, not that spectacular”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

The water was rough.. It says that on the website, everyone knew that.. That was fun actually. But I'm sure they don't bargain rough waters into the steep price. What I'm really really disappointed about was the 10-12 minutes of lava time. Thats all you get. 2 pass by's on each side. I was still trying to get my camera setting in order cause of the changing light and all. I mean we are paying 200 dollars. Give us our money's worth! I work on a boat, and we do circumnavigation of Lanai, 7 hours.. We serve breakfast, lunch and beverages all day long. personalized snorkel tours, dolphins, whales, turtles, mantas.. We stop for it all. Only 150 bucks. We feel guilty for asking for tips, let alone this company asking for tips. What was I suppose to tip for? For you doing your job??

“What a ride!”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

If you don't like roller coasters, you might want to see the lava a different way. We met the boat at 5:30am (usually mornings are calmer) and paralleled the shoreline for ~1/2 hour. The boat captain was very experienced navigating the boat so close to the flowing lava....and we have the photos to prove it!

“Once in a lifetime!”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

Did the 8 pm tour a lot of fun! 12 year old went with us was never concerned with safety. If u want to get close to lava entering the sea this is for you! Feel the heat and hear the popping of rocks!
You will get soaked take a poncho! It is costly but we felt the experience was worth it. The boat driver is excellent. You will wait in a park next to a bathroom which is weird but they do show up and enter the boat to the right of the park at the docks! Good time!
