If you're looking for an authentic getaway far from tourists, vacationers, and city lights, then this is the place. The thing we loved most, besides being in the jungle, was that we had the whole place all to ourselves. The view from the roof deck is absolutely gorgeous, and the stars are so bright it feels like you could reach out and touch them. By the end of the first day, we were already referring to it as "Home 2". The owner is the most genuine person you'll ever meet, and he's happy to talk about where to go for the best food, beaches, or history about the island. When we come back to the Big Island, we will be staying here again!
We had a great time at this rental. The title is accurate - it has an ocean view, and it is pretty much in the country. You get there by driving on dirt roads through an old Hawaiian forest. The house pretty much looks like the pictures here on TripAdvisor. It is close to the "warm pools" at the Ahalanui County Beach Park, which were awesome, and the Kapoho Tidepools though we didn't get to check those out. The owner even helped us out with a late-night fix so we could take advantage of an excellent stargazing night. Though we used it as a base to explore all over Hawaii, it would be a great place to just relax, read, and enjoy the nearby town and natural attractions. Overall it was a great, quiet retreat that I would stay at again.
Me and my husband stayed here with our son (a toddler) and we loved to experience living in the midst of the jungle. Our son enjoyed it the most! The Pahoa town was very close like 15min so we could cook breakfast ourselves and sometimes lunch. There was sufficient tools and supplies in the kitchen to do the cooking. (I.e. Pots, plates, knifes, etc.) there was a shower and a washing machine but could only be used during sunlight hours because all power runs on solar panels. Warm ponds were very close to our house and the volcano too. Definitely enjoyed taking walks through the jungle and picking fresh avocados and guavas off of the trees. Soooo tasty! At night the frogs caught by surprise "signing" to us but we were able to fall asleep without a problem!
