We had a wonderful 4-night stay at the Pineapple Studio. Sandy was able to give us great advice on the area (complete with a binder of info on local attractions and restaurants), and she welcomed us with a thoughtful gift and some tasty light breakfast fare. Aside from the lovely decor, she had obviously thought of several "little extras" to make our visit comfortable and easy, from the beach towels to the white noise machine. The studio was well away from the larger cities and tourist areas (which was the relaxing ambiance we were aiming for). Though that meant that we needed to drive a little to get to the beaches and other locations we visited (and it was over an hour from the Kona airport), there were a couple of grocery stores and local restaurants within easy walking distance. The facility uses rain catch water, but it is thoroughly filtered and safe to drink (something we wondered about in advance of our stay). Thanks for providing a great vacation spot, Sandy!
Sharon was a wonderful hostess. Everything in the studio was as described or better. Spotlessly clean, matching towels, sheets, etc. Wonderfully comfortable bed. Long distance but panoramic ocean view and fantastic birding (the studio and its balcony are right at tree top level, so breakfast looking over it all was great). Easy access to south point and the green sand beach and not at all bad to the volcano.
Out of Sharon's control: there were dogs barking through the night when we stayed, so maybe bring ear plugs/a white noise machine (don't know if that's typical). We're early risers, so the lack of light proofing (which was pretty apparent in the photos) didn't bother us. The stove top is just a hotplate, so plan on one pot meals if you're thinking of cooking. There's a well stocked grocery just blocks away. Plenty of cooking supplies in the studio (all neatly organized and seemingly new). Simple accommodations really well done. Great place to stay on the south end of the island.
