“Wonderful”

We go over to big island yearly, this was an exceptional place for us to stay this year.. A beautiful home, filled with Aloha. Kenny and Kilohana are wonderful host and share their extensive knowledge with their guest. The food was beautifully prepared and much of it from the local area.
We loved our stay at Kalaekilohana.

My husband and I stayed for a second time at Kalaekilohana last week and once again were blown away by the level of comfort, style, and hospitality we received. We already can't wait to return next year!

Breakfast was again delicious and beautifully presented. Eggs and locally grown and roasted coffee was so fresh the farmers delivered it on one of the mornings we were there. We enjoyed a beautiful dinner one night along with all the rest of the guests prepared by Kenny, and it easily could have been served from a Michelin starred kitchen. The grass-fed local steak was perfectly prepared and the presentation was outstanding. This was topped by enjoying home-made coconut-macnut ice cream Kilohana "whipped" up on the lanai!

The bed was as comfortable as we remembered and there are tons of pillows to choose from. Wonderful waffle robes in the closet, tons of towels, full size hair dryer, and even a dish of chocolates on the nightstand. Every corner of the home is immaculately clean. Every detail is thought of - a fridge full of drinks, snacks by the door, and even wool throw blankets on the sofas and chairs on the lanai for chilly nights.

On our previous trip, as well as this trip, there were a group of traditional lauhala weavers on a retreat weaving hats. On this visit we had the honor of taking a weaving class with them which was an outstanding experience and a wonderful way to learn more about Hawaiian culture.

Kalaekilohana is a peaceful, beautiful place. Kenny and Kilohana go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need for total relaxation and comfort. We will definitely be returning for R&R again next year.

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful and have small lanais with two chairs and side table.

The rooms are beautifully designed and decorated. The help-yourself fridge with wine, beer and snacks was much appreciated after a long day of hiking and exploring. The hosts are warm, friendly and happy to share their love of this area. It was a treat to stay here enroute from Volcano to Kona.

Green Features: The focus is on locally produced foods, the library is full of information on the history of Hawaii and there are local products and crafts available for purchase too.

This place is unique. A timber framed beautiful yellow house with huge verandah set in a remote corner of Big Island, close to the southernmost point of the US. Kilo and his partner Kenny could not have been kinder or more helpful and Kenny is a great cook too! Breakfast was outstanding - with local produce and the prettiest and most colourful plates I have ever seen. Home made pizza night was huge fun too! Faultless rooms with lovely touches like huge towels and waterfall showers. Great views of the volcanos and sea from the lantern light roof. I wish we were still there.......thank you Kilo and Kenny.

Room Tip: All four rooms are similar so no problem with any of them.

Wow, that was probably our best stay in Hawaii!
Lovely and charming hosts, wonderful house, quiet location and amazing breakfast (simple with very fresh ingredients). Being able to wash clothes ourselves was greatly appreciated. We stayed there only one night mainly because it's a little remote but I would say 2-3 nights would be worth it. This accommodation is a unique experience, very different from most hotels and resorts we find on the island.
The walk and swim to green sand beach was also one of our best in whole Big Island.

Everything about this B&B is superlative: the home is beautifully situated on a quiet hill near the ocean, the rooms are not just impeccable but quiet and beautifully furnished. And the food at breakfast is among the finest I have ever eaten in many years of traveling. Our guests were attentive and knowledgeable about music, food, Hawaiian culture and the local places to visit. The only drawback is that there are not a lot of dining options in the area, but Kenny and Kilohana were gracious enough to offer their kitchen for us to make a simple dinner one of the nights we were there. Each evening they would offer us wonderful wine and beer to enjoy on their amazing front porch. It was delightful.
