We stayed at the Hobbit House the week we got married in Hawaii and it was the perfect hideaway! The owners are wonderful, friendly, and informative. We have never had better treatment at any place we've travelled to. The Hobbit House itself is lovely, very quiet, with magnificent views of the valley to the ocean. It is secluded and you really do need a 4x4 to get there from the main road, but we also found that the quiet location allowed for a sense of peace we had not experienced for a while! Darlene's breakfasts are fabulous and Bill's stories will keep you entertained. The Hobbit House is near a lovely little town (Na'alehu) where you can get some groceries and go for dinner, it is about halfway between volcano park (Hilo) and Kona, so if you do a lot of driving (like we did) you will be in a good position to see both sides of the island. This vacation was made infinitely better by these good folks and the beautiful setting, if you really want to get away, you can't do better than the Hobbit House!
