Manta rays at night seems to be everyones #1 experience, so we were prepared to be disappointed. The trip out is just minutes the briefing very thorough. My son and I are experienced snorkelers my wife much less so. I was not sure what to expect. They provide wet suits (needed) and put out long poles with floats that you hang on too. No need to be an experienced snorkeler or a strong swimmer. After free swimming around the island you wonder how this will be fun. The trick is the Mantas come to you. Looping up missing you by inches. You should not ever touch them but both my son and I got bumped gently twice. By the end to the 45 minutes the water you will be cold. But you will be astounded by the spectacle. Looping swooping diving. At the end we had 6-7 mantas swimming around us and along the bottom. Bring your waterproof camera but videos work the best. Hot chocolate is available after boarding and you are back on land in a few minutes.
The boat is well run the crew fantastic and the experience other worldly Thank you for a life affirming adventure

We did 2 tours with Sea Paradise during our visit to the Big Island. We chose Sea Paradise because they were a smaller boat than many of the big charters available on the Big Island. Our first tour was the afternoon snorkel. There were 9 in our group and 2 other fellow Canadians on board. The crew (captain Tanner, Kelly and Tyson) were very attentive (folding our wet towels!) and friendly. Captain Tanner gave us a history lesson regarding Captain Cook. Three of our group also did the Manta Night Snorkel. By far the most amazing snorkeling experience! Captain Eddie, Dane and Keira (studying micro biology) were so fantastic. The ensured everyone in the water in the pitch blackness were comfortable, safe and comfortable. We saw 8 Manta that night circling within inches of us. Amazing! As Keira said..."this is a feeding frenzy". Highly recommend this tour group. Small, personable, informative, not fancy but well worth checking out. Would definitely book with them the next time we visit the Big Island.

My friend and I always try to get in at least three snorkel trips when we are vacationing in Kailua-Kona and a trip out on the Sea Paradise to Kealakakua Bay and the Capt Cook Monument is required. This is one of the most historic and protected snorkeling spots around the Big Island. Currently the kayaks that used to be everywhere are not permitted so even though it is still very busy in the bay, it is quieter. There are no buoys either so it is a "live" dive site with the captain maintaining the position of the boat with the motor. You have to look up occasionally to see where the boat is.

We went out on a bright sunny day and the coral and fish at this site were spectacular, however, as we all got back on board and were preparing to move on to another site a storm suddenly appeared over the mountain and the wind became very strong. Captain Dane put the sails up and we sailed faster than I ever have out of the bay and up the coast. He said they rarely had an opportunity to really sail like that on the west coast of the Big Island. We all got wet once again from the spray and everyone had a great time.

One surprise we had when we arrived at Keouhou Bay where the boat is docked was that the buildings from which they operated were gone completely. We learned that the 2011 Tsunami which was a result of the March 11 earthquake in Japan had flooded Kailua-Kona and Kealakakua Bay, but funneled right into Keouhou Bay taking out the buildings including those of Sea Paradise, Fair Wind and the rafting company there as well as the Yacht Club building. The owners of the Sea Paradise are donating the land they own to the Hawaiian People and it will be developed to expand the existing tiny park marking the birthplace of King Kamehameha III. We will be back to sail with this company again. It is important to support a company that has so much respect and appreciation for the history of Hawaii and for the Hawaiian people.

Our family of 5 (3 kids ages 10 and 13) took the evening manta ray trip - don't call it a cruise you only travel out to see several hundred feet. The crew was great, very friendly, funny and incredibly helpful. Our son was quite scared to go into the water and one of the crew stayed with him and got him to go in briefly but enough time to say he saw the manta rays. Seeing the manta rays themselves is incredible. They come up very close to you and you can see every detail of their bodies and inside their mouths but you feel quite safe. I was most afraid of being cold in the water at night but it wasn't a problem at all and they have hot chocolate for you when you get out of the water. Although the boat trip itself is short you get a lot of time to be in the water and snorkel and see the manta rays. This was quite an experience. I would recommend it to anyone of any age.

Snorkel trip on their catamaran. Nice clean boat, very friendly staff, enjoyable talkative captain. Dove two nice sites, one near Captain Cook monument with very interesting local history. Loads of fish, pretty calm and very clear water. Very enjoyable day. Price point was also very reasonable. Would definitely recommend.
