We rented snorkel gear from kona boys and returned it six days early when snorkeling turned out not to be our thing. They graciously refunded our money and when we said we'd take trade out, got amazing deals on rx mask and organic t shirts. A fun small business to do biz with

“Daytime Kayak”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

These guys rock. We went Kayaking with another couple with one guide. The guide, who's name I forgot unfortunately, was awesome. Great stories, great history about the area. He genuinely cared if we were having a good time. Showed us some of the hidden snorkeling areas. Found us some eels, and taught us how to find them. I was amazed how many (all) of them I would have never seen otherwise! Lunch was included. The guy was a dolphin hound. We watched them on the way out AND on the way back to the dock. Very professional. Instructed us on the proper viewing technique (aka, don't mess with 'em, just watch, stay out of their way). All the while shaking his head at douchbags pestering the heck out of them.

I'll return for another great day next time in Hawaii.

“Snorkel rental”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

We drove down from Kona to rent snorkel gear and boogie boards for the week. These guys were wonderfully friendly. Got our stuff rented and also got some great tips on places to eat, drink and visit. Will rent from them again!

“A Day at the Beachbwith Kona Boys!”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

We just returned home after spending 14 days on the Big Island. We seemed to spend so much time with Kona Boys, they were knowledgable, friendly, helpful ... Like our Hawaiian concierge ! We booked them for a day at the beach, and it was the best day of our trip!
We started off our day with a prime spot on an amazing little beach Kamakahonu beach, where they had set up 10 beach chairs for our large group, 4 umbrellas and they babysat our purses while we played! They took us all out with 2 guides kayaking where we saw dolphins close enough to touch! It was an incredible thing to see.
They took us snorkelling, and stand up paddle boarding too. They fed us lunch, provided drinks all day. We were there from 8am until 4:30 pm with free access for our group to any of their equipment all day long (and free parking too). It was perfect for our group of 6 teen boys and 5 adults.
At kona boys they make you feel like an old friend, they are awesome.
They were great at helping us find things to do with our group, and told us the best places to take surf lessons, night time manta ray dives and made sure we did the Mauna Kea summit.
Our last day we had to be out of our rental at 10 am and our flight home was at 10:30 pm so we booked another day at the beach with Kona boys, we played hard and enjoyed our vacation to the very end! thanks Kona Boys!

“Kona Boys”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

As a snorkel gear rental place, we were very disappointed. I would have probably given them a 1 or 2 if we went only for equipment rental. The man at the counter when we checked in for our tour was kind of rude. He acted like we were really putting him out just by being there. Not a great first impression. The girl who helped us get our equipment was nice and tried hard, but we needed a prescription mask and they only had 2! One mask was a -7.0 and the other was a -2.5 diopter. My husband needed a -5.0, so everything was blurry for him and he got a headache. It also didn't fit well and leaked like a sieve. Super-unorganized fin storage- it took several minutes for her to find matched pairs, and they were very picked over. Therefore, the ones my husband got did not really fit him and he got sores from them rubbing on his ankles.

We were kind of dreading our kayaking tour by the time we got out of the shop, but we paid a lot of money to do it so we headed down to meet our guide. Jared was great! He was very personable and gave us an interesting and thorough history of the area and of Captain Cook. He pointed out things of interest while we paddled to our destination. He climbed a tamarind tree so we could try tamarind fruit. He did some snorkeling with us and pointed out some of his favorite fish and corals. He also took some pictures of my husband and I together, which was nice, because most of the photos from our trip are only of one of us while the other took the picture.

He packed a fabulous lunch. A nice variety of fresh tropical fruits that were in season, fresh tomato, avocado, and grapefruit, tasty sandwiches from Island Naturals (one on gluten-free bread for me), fruit juice, water, chips, and some awesome cocoa covered almonds. He then gave us more snorkeling time while he packed up the stuff and got ready for the return trip. He never made us feel rushed, and he was a pleasure to be around. It kind of felt like we were hanging out with a friend. He even gave us some recommendations for local eats and cool stuff to do that would give us a less touristy experience of the area (at our request). I would easily give him a 5 out of 5.
