A very popular spot as the evening gets going. We went early without a res and beat the crowds. If you go more like 6-7pm, then definitely get a res. The food here is excellent and probably the best meal we had on the Big Island (and there was competition). All of the dishes we had were prepared with exquisite care and attention to detail, focusing on local ingredients. A very complementary wine list includes a number of high quality Italian bottles at good prices. Service was welcoming and flawless.

We chose Mi's because they run a small gourmet wine and cheese shop near our home. We were not disappointed. The food was beautifully prepared and service was welcoming and efficient. We were a party of four and each ate a different entre. The basis of all four dishes was an excellent marinara sauce. Pastas were delicate and perfectly prepared. The only negative was the meatballs with my husband's spaghetti. They were overlooked and too dense.

The restaurant is dark. Reservations are a must. We will definitely take the drive again.

We were concerned from the designation "Italian" that there would be too much wheat (for a gluten-conscious diner) and too much dairy (for a cow-milk avoider), but once we read the menu, it was easy to choose food that fit our needs.

And everything was delicious, unexpected variations on the Italian theme, with a lot of attention to including local produce and freshly made.

We would return with pleasure.

This lovely place is a nice change from the poke and sushi. It was recommended to us by the proprietor at our B&B and did not disappoint. Reasonable prices, particularly for Hawaii, good ambiance: candle lit and intimate, but not so hushed that you feel you couldn't have a good conversation with friends - all in all, a very nice vibe!

We had terrific bruschetta and a soup of the day (we recall either pumpkin or squash - regardless, it was great) to start; very good baked polenta with veggies and added prawns in garlic butter; very good Italian sausage and mushroom regate; and a spectacular banana-caramel-macadamia nut-vanilla-ice-cream amazement (this is worth the visit alone). Food was terrific. Wine was very good and reasonably priced as well.

A few items: make sure you have reservations (it was packed when we were there); it is a family-owned restaurant, and unfortunately a couple children (we think the owner's children?) were running in and out. Once is cute, more than ten times and our teeth started to grind. Another service misfire was a "you take your chances!" response when asked if the after-dinner coffee was fresh (it is the Kona Coast, after all). We thought that was a bit weird and unprofessional - and we didn't order the coffee.

So a couple service missteps, but all in all, a wonderful place to dine.

We had a lasagna and a Regatta, which were both very good. Fresh herbs, busy little restaurant. Price wasn't overly expensive.
