Great tacos, burgers, convenient if you're staying at the Fairmont Orchid, but EXPENSIVE. Nice place, eat in the sand, frond umbrellas, charming. Walk a few feet and see the turtles sunning on the rocks.

The drinks were very very good. The best margarita on the island. They have lots of food choices on the menu. I had their special of the day which is coconut shrimp and it was to die for. The service was excellent and the sunset view was breathtaking. A little pricy but that was quite expected.

Maybe the bartenders (both male) were having a bad day, but when two of us sit at a bar for 15 minutes failing to get the attention of at least one bartender while they waited on other FEMALE customers who arrived long after us..... well that just irks me. I finally had to snag a floating waitress who gladly took our drink orders and promptly got our orders into the que..... she earned a good tip.... while the mail bartenders....... they seemed more intent on serving the female customers. We had stopped by to check out the hotel for a future trip, but this really soured us on the place. Don't get me wrong... It is a nice enough hotel... they just need to set the bartenders straight about serving ALL THE CUSTOMERS.

If you like to eat on the beach, this is your best option outside the Hau Tree (Mauna Kea Resort) since the Mauna Lani closed its Ocean Grill. Food is generally good, service can be slow, but prices are fair for Hawaii. Their Orchid Mai Tai is the best Mai Tai anywhere on the Big Island IMO and they have large draft beers from Kona Brewery. No reservations, so be there early to see the sunset with drink in hand and food in front of you. Just a lovely spot.

Setting is lovely, near the ocean, food was ok, but the prices rule this out for us after 3 separate visits. Recently we had fish tacos, 2 smoothies and shared a less than mediocre "pineapple upside down cake," which was like a heated Twinkie with a ring of pineapple on it. Total cost, with tip, $95! NOT worth it. Better fare elsewhere, and you are not gouged. Hostess was gruff. Will skip from now on.
