“Mmmmmmalasadas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

We headed out early to try the famous malasadas at Tex's. Luck was with us, and only one outside table was taken with a couple of locals. The lady was happy to chat and tell us all about the establishment and what we should order. We ended up with the full breakfast of eggs, wonderful crispy bacon, delicious ham, rice, hash browns, juice, kona coffee and FOUR malasadas ( 2 to go)
They lived up to their reputation..freshly cooked , presented warm with filling inserted according to your choice ( about 6 available). All were very very yummy.
As we enjoyed the breeze outdoors and our food, the place became more and more busy.
By the way, there is a clean bathroom and a pretty cute little gift shop on premises.
Happy and sorta stuffed, we had to request sturdy horses for our morning excursion in waipio valley....!!

“the best malasadas, good cheap food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

this is a fast food type place with burgers, sandwiches and plate meals. the food is good, and the prices are cheap, great place to go if you are on a budget. the malasadas are the best and it is worth it to come here just for those.

“Oooh the malasadas”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2013

The food is ok. I had an asian chicken wrap which was good, my husband had a pork wrap which was lack of flavor. Staff was very friendly. But this place is really about the malasadas.

The malasadas were soft, light, airy, and delicious. We had Bavarian creme and chocolate filled, both delicious. Nice outdoor seating on a covered lanai.

“Great local food with island flavor”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013 via mobile

Tex's Drive In is a must visit when you come to the Big Island. Stay away from the chain restaurants and go local. The Malasadas are the best on the island. Bavarian cream is the one to get and highly recommended by the locals. They are best warm and eaten at the place. Good outdoor seating and a nice rest stop traveling along the coastline from Hilo town. Food is cooked to order and is hot and fresh. Prices are very resonable.
Enjoy a Malasada for me until my next visit to Tex.
