Waipio Valley is one of the most beautiful spots on earth. The shear beauty of it is unbelievable. This is a must when on the big Island, be sure to rent a 4 wheel drive for the best experience.

Second time visiting this place. It’s so beautiful! Drive down (4 wheel drive only - no joke), or walk down (I’d estimate 40min down, 50min up). The beach is a truly perfect black sand beach. Soft sand. After you park, to the right, the beach is covered in rocks. To the left you can walk it further & it’s mostly sand. Must cross the mouth of the river. It’s small but use caution. It came knee deep for us (river) for about 15 steps. We walked the beach all the way to the end. It’s just gorgeous! The currents were mad that day. You could see the water churning. So be careful. Definitely recommend! It’s at end of a long road.

Gorgeous view. Easy to get to and almost as good as going down into the valley. Rest rooms available on site

The title says it all! Even on a cloudy day it is a fantastic view and you can see the water crashing along the shoreline as well as one of the longest black sand beaches on the big Island!

If you have the time definitely drive up to Waipio (about 45 minutes northwest of Akaka). However, I do think Pololu is the better lookout and easier to walk down to.
