“What a view!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2010

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Waipio Rim B&B. Steve and Nancy were very helpful and attentive. They designed and built the room we stayed in and it was wonderful with many artistic flares. The view was amazing. Waking up and looking over the top of the comforter to the shoreline and cliffs on the far side of the valley was something I'll never forget. We hiked down to the valley, across the sand, and part way up the other side. We saw very few people and it was so enjoyable and beautiful. The hike back up the hill to the B&B was strenuous, but our hosts had delicious smoothies and hors d'oeuvres waiting for us. We felt very spoiled and privileged staying here. We'll be back!

I almost hesitate to write this review, because I am certain that I am adding to a pile of glowing recommendations that will soon make this B and B impossible to book. The view from this separate structure room is truly magical. It is literally breathtaking. It was so crazy to drive past all the folks parking at the overlook to watch the sunset over Waipio Valley to go to our private viewing area - our room and balcony. After meeting Steve and Nancy - very cool owners who are very personable- we were greeted by some appetizers and a bottle of wine. My wife got me to leave the room just long enough to grab dinner to go and race back to the room to continue the experience of being in paradise. We spent the first half of the night drinking some wine with all the lights out on the balcony to prolong the view of the valley. We slept with the doors open (the screens shut) so we could hear the waves crashing onto the shore below. We awoke to the singing of birds. Breakfast was great- good coffee accompanied by waffles with an assortment of homemade toppings including local fruits and honey. The room has beautiful hardwood floors and furniture. The bathroom looks like it was taken from a high-end magazine. The bed, of course, faces the view. Leaving was HORRIBLE. We wish we stayed longer. Steve and Nancy are truly nice people who have chosen to share paradise with others - I hope they have room when we return. We have already told everyone we talked to about our vacation that this place is a must if going to the Big Island. Beware, you're version of a nice place will change forever. BTW, the pictures on the website are real, but they don't capture the awe inspiring feel.

We stayed five glorious days at Waipio Rim --- days filled with peace, serenity, astounding beauty, fascinating birds, and soul-satisfying breakfasts . . . all thanks to the best hosts ever! Nancy and Steve have thought of every detail --- first in the site planning, design, building, and decorating of this stunning retreat that compliments the thrilling views. Felt as though we were in our own special treehouse, where time stopped and only the ever-changing weather connected us with reality. Freshly made, still warm pupus, served by Nancy shortly after our arrival, signaled our opportunity to slow down and enjoy these spectacular surroundings --- our daily stress ebbed as we watched the tide do the same. Breakfasts awakened our palates to fresh local products, all fixed in wondrous combinations. Thought it couldn't get any better until fresh strawberries and apple-banana crepes! We took particular delight in the Roberson's assistants: Dottie, Sam, and the chickens . . . and the local mynas, cardinals, and assorted birds. Although Steve provided great directions to the waterfalls, thankfully Dottie kept us on track, coming and going. Whether recommendations to local restaurants or honoring our special celebration, our hosts provided delightful surprises, which have given us lifelong memories. We will be forever grateful for these five days in the ultimate escape!!

I found the Waipio Rim on Tripadvisor and after reading the 2 reviews and seeing the pictures on their website, I was completely sold. Little did I know that it would be even better than expected when my husband and I arrived. The view from the room is unbelievable and the atmosphere is one of total relaxation. We even saw a few humpback whales from the beach and from the deck.

The breakfasts each morning were fantastic. Even better was eating them above the crashing waves, making this bed and breakfast a one-of-a-kind. Amazing papaya crepes one morning. Then when I mentioned that I hadn't had kalua pork, Steve made great pork and pineapple coconut waffles the next morning. Delicious coffee is ready and available outside your door at 6:30 AM every morning and you'll want to be up for it, even if you're not a morning person. We didn't want to waste a moment of daylight during our stay.

We did some hiking while we were there. Down to the beach and up to the third switchback on the other side of the valley provides some very nice views. Something else we really enjoyed was access to an awesome view of Hi'ilawe Falls (tallest on the big island). You can see it from the switchback or the beach but you can also hike back into the valley a bit for a more close-up look. I believe there are tour groups that can take you all the way to the waterfall, which we would have liked to have done with more time.

I could keep going for pages about the things that I loved about this place. Sleeping was fantastic with the comfortable bed, sounds of the ocean and the fresh air. Steve and Nancy are extremely sweet and helpful. The price you pay is comparable to what you would pay at a resort over at Waikoloa, but it's so much better to have your own private paradise, natural and untainted. If you're looking for a beautiful view on the Big Island, you can't miss this. It's great for active people with access to hiking but perfect for those who just want to relax. Next time we go to the Big Island, we'll make sure that the Waipio Rim is available before we book our tickets.

I wanted to be near Waipio valley to enjoy the view, see the falls and the beach...got all of that and more. We arrived to pupus and a bottle of wine, and helpful hosts. Room with great view of valley and beach was spacious, modern, comfortable. Host showed us a nearby hike up the rim to view the falls...his dog accompanied us on the hike. Breakfast served to the room as well!

It is hard to believe the lovely setting of this B+B and the spectacular view down into the Waipio Valley on Hawaii's big island. It is extraordinary. The room, bathroom and porch are very nicely decorated. You immediately feel the attention to detail that is reflected in every aspect of your visit. Eating a delicious breakfast while watching the surfers catching waves a thousand feet below us was magical. I hope we can return ... soon!!

We decided on this BandB because we wanted to visit Waipio Valley and thought why not stay right in the Valley. It's located at the lookout, as you decend towards the valley you immediately turn left. No need for a 4x4. The place is more like an Inn, as it's located in a house seperate from the owners. The view from the Lanai (see picture) is the most incredible scenery you will ever experience. The room and bathroom are beautifully decorated with a comfortable bed and linens. During the night I kept waking up thinking I was in heaven, the windows surrounding the room makes it feel like you are outside. We woke up to fresh coffee and the best breakfast of our trip, macadamian, banana pancakes with an assortment of syrups. The owners leave it on the beautiful lanai overlooking the valley. That morning we walked down the valley and took great pictures, it was quite the hike but worth it. There's a beach at the bottom of the valley and we watched the surfers. We were surprised to receive a delicious smoothie on our return. The owners were helpful and gave us tips on where to visit and eat. If you want to see the Waipio valley, which was one of the highlights of our trip, I recommend you stay here. It's the perfect place to see the valley, take wonderful pics and experience its beauty.
