“Enlightenment in Hawaii”

Buddha's Cup Coffee Estate
Reviewed March 15, 2014

This is an amazing place to visit! The Coffee was hands down the best we had on the island. We were able to try several or their different roasts (for free) and toured the estate (also free). This farm is set on toward the top of the vehicle accessible mountain on the Kona side of the Big Island. This is a must visit for anyone who loves Coffee!

I found out about Buddha's Cup by having it with dessert at dinner at the awesome ULU Ocean Grill at the Four Seasons. It was so fresh and tasty, I wanted to learn more about where it was from.

Its a short drive up from Kailua-Kona, and nice to see the countryside. Lots of other coffee plantations along the way. I kept thinking I had turned onto someone's driveway, but no... Bishop Road is narrow.

Buddha’s Cup is an award winning Single Estate Grown, 100% Kona Coffee. The Kona Coffee beans are hand selected and sun dried.

The tasting was great! I picked up a few bags to take home of my favourites! I was caffeine buzzed, and the little tour around after was good.

Call or email ahead to schedule a tour of the Buddha’s Sanctuary Kona Coffee farm and visit to their Farm Store/Kona Coffee Tasting Room.

While we were in Hawaii, I figured that I ought to see how they grow the "real" Kona coffeee - Buddha's cup didn't disappoint! They actually are the nexus for 5 different farms ("estates") with different characteristics. The namesake Buddha's Cup is shade-grown under native Ohia trees, far up the mountain. Really neat, winding, mostly one-lane road up to the farm. Even though we came up on a Sunday, the owner was happy to brew up some fresh sample coffee in French presses, and give a tour showing where they grow, sort and process the beans. This is not a huge operation - Buddha's Cup is just 20 acres.
