We had a "mixture" of age groups - toddlers, young children, teenagers and us adults. So, we weren't sure how well everyone was going to do on this 3 hour tour. Everyone had a blast! We saw many whales...the boat is only allowed to get a certain distance to them, so none of the whales were right near the boat. But it was such a spectacular thing to see, noone minded! We had two different instances when we had chance to watch the "dolphin show". I swear, it seemed like the more the kids clapped and cheered, the more the dolphins jumped out of the water and provided us with a show. The spinners were so much fun to watch. These dolphins didn't seem afraid of us, in fact they were swimming up to the boat. What a cool thing for al the kids (and adults). So, bottom line, 3 hours was great for everyone, we enjoyed the sun, had a blast looking for the whales, and watching the dolphins. Fyi - we were a bit leary based on some other reviews regarding getting sea sick. None of us did (we had 16 people in our party). Some of our group wore the wrist bands, most did not. Only one person (my hubby) got a little queazy...he always gets sea sick, so only to be a little upset in his stomach was good. My advice - with cameras, bring the longest mm camera attachment you have! So that you can "capture" the moments when you spot the whales from a distance. I'd absolutely go on this trip again!

This was a wonderful trip. We saw many humpback whales and two of the breached for us! Captain Dan was a wonderful guide and very knowledgeable. He gave a very interesting narrative during the trip. The crew was also very knowledgeable and helpful. Theyt were very accommodating to my 88 year old mother, who uses a walker. Her walker had to stay on shore, but they helped her on and off the boat. I would recommend this trip to everyone.

This was our second trip with Capt. Dan - he really knows his stuff. The whole team are friendly and knowledgeable and we would highly recommend a whale watch with them.

Fantastic trip. We saw whale, they even swam under the boat! And then we saw the spinner dolphin - actually spinning! The crew offered light snacks (fruit, chips and cheese) while on the trip and provided educational presentations. Highly recommended!

We took the morning trip to try and see some whales and other sealife from up close. A friend who lived for two years on Big Island told us about Captain Dan McSweeney, so we decided to go with him. We arrived in the Honokohau Harbor around 6:30, and were almost immediately greeted by Dan, who led us to his boat. After the necessary administration, everybody could step aboard. There is a choice of seats: Bottom, top or front. These seats are only fixed while the boat is moving fast. When there is something to see, you're allowed to move around freely. Minutes after we left, we had a couple of dolphins next to the boat. Unfortunately they were very quick out of our sight. Captain Dan is very expertised in his job, and was able to tell when the whales would come up to breathe. We saw plenty of whales, but none breaching. We were offered a variety of snacks during the excursion. I would recommed going out with Dan, as there is probable nobody else with 40 years of experience studying and following whales.
