This was a relatively small building with a mixture of Hawaiian history and culture along with somewhat basic astronomy and a short planetarium show. I had been hoping for more astronomy given the number of telescopes on Mauna Kea.

Entry was free that day = good. Crowds were large that day = bad. The planetarium shows were special for the birthday celebration and they were geared for children. Good if you have kids; bad if you were planning to learn about the Polynesians following the stars.
We did not stay long.

Some displays were recorded narrations, but difficult to hear as the volume was too low. The large ball that was programmable was neat, but you had to learn how to use it by trial and error. The planetarium was fairly good, but the lecturer was a bit quick with the pointer. Most of the facility seemed particularly good for kids. The attached restaurant was 3/5 for food and atmosphere and 4/5 for service.

The astronomer who narrated a show about the stars was very knowledgeable and we learned so much more than we knew before. The location is at the University and there was more to see which we hope to get to on another trip

Great for children and people very new to astronomy. Planetarium show was very novel and a must of you are going to visit.
