“Lots of local families enjoying a beautiful Sunday.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014

We took our guests to Lilioukalani Gardens and the nearby Coconut Island on Banyan Drive on a lovely Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed the walk through the grounds where families were playing sports and games, fishing, picnicking and swimming.

“Beautiful, restful walk in the park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2014

Hilo isn't exactly a bustling metropolis, but there is plenty of traffic, depending on the time of year. To have a small, but spacious, park that is well manicured just blocks from downtown is a great asset to any city. We parked and strolled about for almost an hour, just taking in the various native species of trees, Japanese architecture and sculpture, ponds, fish and birds. The park is just far enough off the main road that you don't hear the cars, only the birds and breeze.

The park has installed plenty of benches to rest on, but we encountered ants on at least one. The huge banyan tree is a delight, as are the various ponds that are linked. Plenty of fish play around in them, while multiple species of birds eat below the trees and on the shrubs. The statuary is tastefully strewn about and the paved and unpaved walking paths lead delightfully through the various sections of the park. Apparently, it is a popular place for people to bring lunch and enjoy the scenery.

“Beautiful and worth visiting.”

These Japanese Gardens are truly lovely and well worth a visit. Located on the bay at Hilo, they can be reached by driving along a road through banyan trees, well worth seeing in their own right.

“Nice place for a walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2014

This park is located off Banyan Drive in downtown Hilo. It is a nice place for a walk or to have a picnic lunch. Hilo Bay is across the street so very scenic. There is a small Japanese style pagoda and bridge. There is no admission charge. Perhaps a half hour to walk through the entire park.

“Lilieakulani Gardens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2014

A beautiful public park on Banyaan Drive in Hilo. Based on Japenese principles with a Pagoda, bridges, and walkways. Hilo Harbor is in view just across the street. Banyan Drive is the home of 80 year old trees planted by many celebrities including Babe Ruth.
