This beautifully restored Craftsman home on the hill is an easy walk down to the shops and bayfront in Hilo. Well sized rooms gracious and beautifully decorated in a perfect blend of luxury and charm, with hawaiian quilts and tastefully curated home furnishings and art, much better than the photos can show.

This inn offers charm and serenity and Hawaiian hospitality in many ways that made me feel at once like a local girl and also an honored guest. The sunny, genuine personality of the owner (Gaye) shows through in many personal details and most especially in the ample and delicious breakfast with fresh local fruits and juices. I can still taste her homemade apple banana coffee cake from a Willams Sonoma recipe.

She offered many good suggestions and was a great resource for making my trip great for seeing the sights, relaxing, and getting around. Her Hawaii guidebooks were great. She put me at ease when my car rental situation took a goofy turn and she was absolutely right that everyone works out, as it often does in Hawaii.

Beyond the setting and amenities, it is a feel good home.

All the rooms are in excellent condition but the 2nd floor tatami room with wrap- around windows is really special, perfect for a retreat, a nap, star gazing and letting in the island tradewinds.

Friends and I recently spent three fabulous days/nights at this lovely B&B. It is situated in a quiet residential area, and the second floor Samurai Suite, which we had reserved, offers a wonderful view of the bay and ocean. Gay, the owner, makes you feel right at home. She serves amazing gourmet breakfasts; you won't leave hungry! Her furnishings are beautiful and the B&B is meticulously maintained. Gay's insights into the Hawaiian culture, recommendations of places to eat and suggestions of things to do made our stay even more special. I look forward to returning to Hilo Honu on a future trip.

Room Tip: Second floor Samurai Room and additional bedroom are great for a family or group of friends.

We stayed at this lovely B&B for 3 nights. Gay, the owner, was very warm and friendly. Extremely knowledgeable about things to see and do around Hilo. Offered suggestions for restaurants which we tried and were happy we did. She knows a lot of the Hawaiian folkore. The Inn itself is very inviting. Myself and 3 friends stayed in the upper floor named the Samurai room. It was very comfortable and homey. The sitting room overlooks the bay and offers a lovely view of the sunrise. The morning breakfasts, starting at 8am, offer platters of fresh fruit, juice, yogurt and a hot dish. When we were there we were served french toast one morning, a skillet sized banana macadamia nut pancake cut into portions, and eggs and sausage the 3rd morning. If we left hungry, it was our own fault. :) The location allows easy access north or south of Hilo. Off street parking is available. Volcano National Park is about 45 minutes away. Rainbow Falls is about a 10 minute drive from the B&B. We were sad to leave and have already talked amongst ourselves of a return trip. I highly recommend Hilo Honu B&B for your stay on the Hilo side of the Big Island.

Room Tip: There are 3 rooms at this B&B. The upper floor is good for 4 adults traveling together of a family of 4. There are two rooms for couples.

My friends and I are staying at this lovely Inn. It is located up the hillside just enough to see beautiful views of the Hilo Bay. Gay, the host is very helpful and informative about places to venture, depending on the time you have allotted. She also has wonderful stories about Hawaiian lore. She will even entertain you with a little Hula. Breakfast has been amazing with fresh fruit and wonderful main dishes such as French toast and a banana pancake as big as a skillet! The space ( upper floor) we stayed in was the Samurai Suite and it was spacious with incredible views and very comfortable beds. I highly recommend Hilo Honu Inn.

We enjoyed staying at the Hilo Honu Inn very much. We had a great suite of rooms which were very spacious. Gay was great at helping us arrange our days especially when it was rainy. We would happily stay there again.
