“Retreat in the woods.”
Reviewed January 6, 2016 for a stay in November 2015

Loved the location and a very nice home. The back porch had the only table and we ate breakfast with the very attractive geckos. There was no TV cable but the Wi-Fi was strong and was all we needed. If TV is needed, DVD's should be brought. The home had a selection of DVD's. We enjoyed visiting the south east of the island, there was lots to see and do. There was a musty odor that is to be expected with the wet climate. There was lots of room for a table and chairs in the kitchen area and it would have been nice to be able to eat and play games indoors at night. A card table and folding chairs would have been enough to make a difference.

Liked best: Being there. Great location to visit the area and the National Park.
Liked least: The musty odor and no inside table and chairs.

This is a nice little home with on site laundry. Your gps may put you a bit far from the home. You can see it easily from the road so if you are at the driveway you will see it. There is not a street address on the street. There are 3 beds, two are twin size. There is a futon in the living room. The kitchen was equipped for our green eggs and spam breakfast. Hilo is about 15-20 mins up the hwy. pahoa is about 10 mins and Keaau is about 10 mins. Kapoli is a busy road and we would not recommend walking it especially with children. Hpp is known to have fire ants. They are very small and very hungry. Keep the place clean to avoid visitors. The geckos do indeed like bananas. Be sure to clean it up when your done though. The only part that we would have changed would be: ask to have the yard mowed 2-3 days before arriving. It was mowed the day after and we tracked in fresh cut grass anytime we stepped outside for a minute. Good thing there was a broom. Keep your trash tidy, you take it to the transfer station and dump it yourself. Everyone does and it is free. The transfer station also recycles so separate your materials. Outside eating is the best way to eat in Hawaii even if it is raining. Enjoy! Mahalo.

Perfect size, clean, accessible, no issues whatsoever. Perfect alternative to a pricey hotel, kitchen with full amenities and nice, large lanai perfect for dining area with beautiful backyard.

“Cute and comfortable but hot and small.”

Suzy's tropical retreat was adequate for our needs but it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. Sleeping 6 was a bit of a stretch--4 would have been much more comfortable. It is a cute little cottage situated on an isolated lot. The yard is fair sized in the back and there is a fire pit, but it would have to dry out quite a bit before using. We arrived late in the evening and located it ok, but the house has no AC and it was quite warm inside. Once we got the windows open and the ceiling fans running it became bearable and was even cool by morning. We enjoyed the surrounding night sounds, but the temp requires the windows to stay open, so if you need quiet for sleep, you aren't going to get it. The Table to eat at is on the lanai, but we couldn't use it because of mosquitos. It was nicely furnished and had most necessities.

Aloha Everyone..
My house is very Hawaiian style.. It is surrounded by birds and jungle sounds at night which I think adds to the full Hawaiian experience.
I like to Have my table outside so people can better enjoy my back deck and watch the birds and geckos that come and visit.
We do have a constant trade wind that is constantly blowing through my house and property that most people find nice and comfortable.
Im sorry that my place was not what these people were looking for.
Perhaps an air conditioned hotel would have been better for them
Aloha
