“Friendly Family Atmosphere”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

The Kids loved it which is a bonus from the start. Huge Portions, very reasonable prices and massive menu. We went twice and they have the biggest and best onion rings i have ever had. Their Mahi Mahi was delicious and overall it was a fun old fashioned diner experience with great service.

“Last meal before heading home”

Good service. Good size to accomodate lots of people. A wide range of things to choose from. Quantity for the price pretty good. Pancakes a little chewy. Good coffee but a little pricey.

“Hit and Miss”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Grilled Mahi Mahi had good flavor, I liked the onion rings, but the Kalbi ribs were not very good, and the brown rice was sad. Someone ordered pancakes with tons of blueberries and strawberries that was gawk worthy.

“Sumo not so good”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

We had lunch here before we left Hilo. I had to get the Sumo burger, my wife got the saimin our friend got the loco moco. My burger was large and looked great but was flavorless. The onion rings were good. Saimin and loco moco were good. Its a classic looking diner that hasn't changed its decor from opening day. Its open 24hrs but is not licensed. Better places to eat a burger.

“Meet Your Ohana at Ken's!”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

Coming into the Hilo airport one evening we realized we had missed the 9pm closing of many Hilo eateries, so asked the car rental crew where folks go for a bite after-hours. "Ke Spanky How" he replied in an unfamiliar patois, and off we went in search mode. Only after circling the a crowded-looking House of Pancakes several times did we realize this was in fact "Ke Spanky Hou" and our race for a parking space began. Inside, we found a full-Hawaiian theme coffee shop with largely local fare. I love the saimin myself. Breakfast eaters were pleased with the omelets, though the pancakes are best ordered 'extra browned'. Any big eaters who order the 'Sumo" portion-size will either charm or annoy fellows diners by setting off THE GONG. If you're looking a the plate lunch experience, this is the place to go!
