It's menu draws from the diverse multicultural influences found throughout the Big Island and applies them to wood fired pizzas, ethnically inspired pastas, risottos, the freshest of seafood and organic salads.

The pricing provided here on TA is grossly overstating their menu, they are a great choice for a real value. There is no need to spend anywhere near $40 per person, you would have to order two entrees per person and share a bottle of wine to get that high. The choices are original and fresh. We have enjoyed several meals here. Very comfortable.

I recently enjoyed lunch at the Cafe Pesto. There were 8 of us and we each ordered something different and everything was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Enjoyed this restaurant on a trip to Hilo from Honolulu. The food was inventive and not ordinary and common. However, it was not up to the best that Hawaii has to offer. Service was excellent. The waitress made good recommendations. The room service persons (waiters, waitresses, busboys, hostesses) all made it a point to scan the room when possible to see whether anyone, whether or not "their" table, needed help or could use assistance.
I recommend this restaurant highly.
The prices were reasonable for the quality of food and service. The room was busy and a bit noisy but this was part of the ambiance.

We enjoyed this place over Pescatore while in Hilo. The food was better, and the service was excellent. Pescatore had better ambience though. When we asked for the dessert menu, our server brought a tray with one of everything on it! Prices were reasonable.

I ate at Cafe Pesto in Dec. 2005 while in Hilo, Big Island, Hawaii. I went there after my helicopter ride on Blue Hawaiian (see separate review). Hilo is definitely not somewhere that mainlanders want to hang out. There are few tourist friendly dining spots & Cafe Pesto is one of them. The city of Hilo is where the locals are as opposed to the other side of the island (the Kona side) there the population primarily consists of tourists from the resorts. If in Hilo I would definitely recommend eating at Cafe Pesto. There was good service and most of the patrons appear to be tourists and not the scraggly local types that hang out on the streets and at the beach park across the way. One member of my party had a calzone and me and another member split a thin crust pizza and side salads. All the food was above average & the prices were reasonable. The waiters almost all appear to be "mainlander" types as opposed to native Hawaiians, which means they speak english. Check out my other tripadvisor reviews for Blue Hawaiian helicopters, Roy's Waikoloa and the Hapuna Beach Prince hotel. Enjoy your trip!
