“Great pizza!”
Reviewed August 6, 2009

Large, roomy, cool, and good, fresh, food. The pizza array is wonderful and well prepared. Everything from traditional toppings to Kahlua pork and pineapple or Chipotle BBQ chicken with mild goat cheese. The crust was light and crisp. The to die for salad in our opinion was the Volcano Mist salad complete with an incredibly sweet, non-greasy, scattering of deep fried onion rings. The specials seem to feature locally caught fish.Nice assortment of beers and mixed drinks. Service was good.

“Delicious pizza - yummy!”
Reviewed June 28, 2009

This place was so good that my husband and I ate here twice during our 2-day visit to Hilo...and we almost went a third time to the location on the other side of the island. Across our two visits, we had the bbq chicken pizza, pepperoni pizza, and the hawaiian pizza, as well as caesar salad and a scoop of the chocolate malt ice cream. I have no complaints about any of it - it was all delicious! The crust was really good, and the 9" pizza was definitely more than enough for a meal (we were happy to have an available fridge/microwave for leftovers). The atmosphere was also great - cute, modern decor with pictures of the lava flow. I wish they would open up one near us!

“Horrible Service-esp. if you are gluten free”
Reviewed May 28, 2009

On our trip to the Big Island we were thrilled to find that all of the restaurants we visited on the Waikoloa side of the island had trained their staff very well regarding making modifications to their menus for gluten free customers (without making the customer feel weird or bad). I wish that I could say the same for the cafe we went to for lunch on our day trip to Hilo. Cafe Pesto looks like a lovely little cafe but as soon as you step inside and inquire with your server after anything that is gluten free--you are in for a bad experience. Our waitress seemed to think that it was a major imposition to explain what menu items could be modified to accommodate a gluten allergy. She was rude and flippant and made it sound like it was a horrible sacrifice that she had to ask the chef to add some salad greens to my burger plate in the place of their home fries. To add insult to injury they charged me the same price as my husband (who had the burger as is on the menu) for 1/4 of the food.
