After a long day of driving around the island, we stopped off for dinner at Cafe Pesto based on the user reviews... and had an enjoyable evening in a historic building with soaring ceilings, Art Deco lights, and ample room for the tables. We booked a table using OpenTable.com and were seated immediately although we arrived 15 minutes before our reservation time.
The food and cocktail menus are quite extensive, and there is a reasonable variety of wines available both by the glass and by the bottle. Wine pricing is incredibly good so we opted for a bottle! Meals are good, not great, but certainly above average for what you find in Hilo. We would absolutely return again as there is a good balance between price and value here.
A jazz duo was playing in the background and it was just the right music at just the right volume to add to the ambiance but not get in the way of the dining experience. Service was friendly and attentive, but not obtrusive. We can see why other reviewers enjoy this restaurant so much!
