“Casual, inviting atmosphere and good food”
Reviewed August 10, 2014 via mobile

My wife and I selected Cafe' Pesto for a Wednesday lunch from the lineup of nearby restaurants listed by Trip Advisor. The restaurant is located in a shopping center that hosts other restaurants, colorful shops, and has a direct view of Hilo Bay. I went to Cafe' Pesto craving seafood, but selected a 9" Pepperoni Classico pizza after observing and smelling a pizza that was served to an adjacent table. My wife selected a 9" Pizza Luau. The 9" pizzas provided more than enough food for the two of us, especially combined with the complimentary fresh bread and very good garlic butter. The restaurant was fairly busy (few empty tables), but the service was frequent, accurate, and friendly. One of the servers even allowed me to charge my camera battery behind the hostess table while we ate. We were extremely pleased with our lunch selection. On an separate note, the Bed & Breakfast we stayed at after visiting Hilo advertised "personal 9" pizzas" from Cafe'Pesto as a dinner option for guests. We definitely understood why the B&B made the recommendation for Cafe' Pesto.

“Nice Stop!”
Reviewed August 8, 2014

We went to Cafe Pesto after a day of hiking in Volcano National Park. It is a casual place, but with good food, right on the main strip in Hilo. We came the day before Tropical Storm Iselle arrived, so it wasn't busy as many other businesses were busy boarding up their windows.

“The food and service have gone down the tube”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

Cafe Pesto is one of the oldest eateries in downtown Hilo. It has been around for a while. Foods are outdated. They reminded me of the 70's. Prices are too high for they serve. The food and service have been going down and down in the past 10 years. I would't go back again. Last time made the mistake of stepping into it during my regular trip downtown. I'd rather go around the corner to The Pineapple.

“Lovely restaurant”
Reviewed August 4, 2014

We had two beautiful meals here. The food was lovely and staff very friendly. If you go at the weekend I suggest you book as it gets very busy but worth the wait.
