“Very good food, well run operation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

When you're in Hilo or just passing through on the way to see the volcano, stop here for a great casual meal. It was easily accessible (actually, we stumbled in after watching an incredible movie at the marine center just down the street). We had a yummy hawaii pizza with passion fruit iced tea. We sat at the bar and were able to watch the back of the house operation. Both my husband and I have run restaurants and these people knew what they were doing. It's actually great to see a well run operation. Service was quick, pleasant and knowledgable: what else do you need? We are staying on the Kona side of the island and plan to go to their restaurant at the Kawaihae Harbor soon.
About prices: EVERYTHING on Hawaii costs more than it does on the mainland. That said, their prices were reasonable and actually at the lower end of resort prices. Try to confirm prices before you show up at any restaurant, even chains, to avoid unpleasant suprises.

“wowzer!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Everything I had was so outstanding for lunch that we came back everyday. The fish was cooked that perfect doneness, you know, where the middle is just barely cooked and the juices taste like the sea. Oh god it was good. But the deserts, do not miss the deserts. try any of them and you'll know what I mean.

“About as good as you are going to get ion Hawaii”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I didn't mean my title to sound like we didn't enjoy Cafe Pesto. It really is about as good as you are going to get on Hawaii. Service was very good as was the food. Prices were way more reasonable than at the resorts. Highly recommended.

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We had a meal in this restaurant whilst on holiday and I can only say my meal was the worst I've had in a long while, I ordered a chicken with mango glaze dish, I've never had such a leatherly dry old piece of chicken, I did complain and was not charged for this dish which was just as well because it wasnt a cheap place. However my husband was quite satisfied with his meal which was a clazone. guess it just depends what you chose !!!!!!!!!

“Excellent for dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Not too expensive, and quite delicious !! Cafe pesto was certainly not what I expected at first since it was in a strip mall, but the food and service were excellent. There was local live music playing, multiple people celebrating their birthday as well, as there were 2 times where people sang happy birthday. Food wise was excellent. We had the cheese pizza as an appetizer and it was exceptionally good. The chicken risotto was rich in flavor and the lilikoi ice tea was ono ! This was fine dining quality without the high fine dining prices. What was nice to see was that it was a nice blend of tourists and locals eating there that evening. I would return again next time I'm in Hilo. Service was excellent. At the end of the evening, you are given a comment card and are able to include your email for restaurant updates, offers, etc. There is also another location on the other part of the island.
