Native Guide Hawaii steered us toward this place and we were not disappointed. Food was delicious and very good service.

Not sure what all these raving reviews about. Just an average place. Looks old and run down from outside. Simple diner looks inside, could def use remodeling.
Service is good, food arrived in timely manner. Was it out of this world? Def not. A dozen other restaurants on the island have a similar menu and food quality.
Tap beer seemed flat...
Is the fish fresh? Sure it is. Noone would come here otherwise.
Portion sizes are jut average, not enormous as one reviewer states.
If you don't mind a 15 mile drive go to Kaleo's in Pahoa. Way better

I love the chinese style fish here. The kids love to go outside and check out the fish ponds with huge fish. Prime rib is pretty good.

Perhaps we ordered all the wrong things. That certainly could be the case considering one person did all the ordering for us to share family style.

Prior to our dinner, we took a stroll along the ponds in the back of the restaurant. It was explained to us that they bring their fish and store them in the ponds. Then, they fish daily for all the fish they will be serving that night.

To start, everyone was offered soup or salad. The clam chowder was good, similar in taste and quality to Boudin's. Choice of brown/white rice or fettucini to pair with the entree. The fettucini was horrible and left mostly untouched. There were three fish dishes: all just bleh and left almost everyone at the table hungry afterwards.

It seems like a popular restaurant among the locals and if I'm ever back here, I'll be sure to order from the menu.

This restaurant surprised us. The attention to the fish and the quality of the produce was remarkable. We expected a chill out local dinner place and we discovered a place that takes its food very seriously. Very serious!
The restaurant is located on the far east end of Hilo, where no tourists venture. Good thing.
We made a reservation for 8pm, and the restaurant turned out to be filled with local families.I dare say some family reunions took place here on this august saturday night as well. No question, this place is a destination for local Hilo families for special occasions.
The setting is nice but not fancy. Family restaurant overlooking a lake.
The service was adequate for family restaurant. We received priceless advice on wines ( they helped us avoid a wine that was unsuitable for our dinner). Speaking of, the wine list is not crazy long, but offers nice variety of American and south American as well as international bottles. If you are a wine snob, this place is not for you. but if you are happy to play along, this place is great.
Our starters and our main meals were fish and seafood based. All superlative. All you need to do is to ask your waiter for suggestions. She knows what the catch of the day is.
And if you trust her, you eat amazingly well. We began with shrimp cocktail and Raw ahi with sesame, which was amazing.
For the main meal Federico took red mullet, amazing, with some sides.
I took the ahi, with local spice, and it was superlative.
No space for desert, unfortunately.
Highly recommended.
