First with the GOOD: the food was delicious! Everyone loved their meal. But, the portions were huge!!! I know that shouldn't be a complaint, because we got our money's worth. But, instead of an enormous portion for $25, we cold have done with about half the fish portion for $15-18, especially since the meal came with salad, bread and was served with vegetables and rice. None of us came close to finishing our fish, so I felt like we were wasting food (we couldn't take it home because we were in a hotel without anywhere to store the leftovers). Service was good too. The waitress accidentally put our son's keiki order in as a full order, but they only charged us the keiki price.
Now for the areas we didn't think we're as good. The location is pretty far out of Hilo. They need to take advantage of this location and the fact they are on a little lagoon and light the exterior better so you can see something. It could give the place some nice ambiance and turn their location into a unique destination worth driving out of town to see. The layout of the restaurant is extremely odd. Guests basically have to walk between two kitchens to get to the dining room. Diners don't want to walk through the kitchen!! Recommend locating an entrance adjacent to the dining area instead. It would allow patrons to walk along the lagoon (if lighted properly) and appreciate the property more.
This restaurant has loads of potential. The food is great, they just need to tweak the portion size and some other details on the property, and it could be spectacular.
