“Interesting, tasty menu, friendly staff”
Reviewed February 24, 2012

What a gem this restaurant is, tucked away off the beaten path. It's the only one we could walk to from our condo. Located on a picturesque pond, it looks like a converted house. Our server was very friendly and helpful and not in a hurry. She described every entree thoroughly and I thought, honestly. Our selections were up to expectations and we enjoyed them very much. Trying the fresh local fish is always fun.

Though we got there before 6:00, it was already crowded, so plan accordingly. Parking can get full.

“Suprise”
Reviewed December 23, 2011

Seaside is further out than you expect and looks like it could use soem help on the outside and isn't fancy on the inside, but suprise, good food and good service, wiht a view out to the fish ponds.

The ahi sashimi was great and portion size really nice! The waiter was knowledgable about what was fresh and kept the flow of the meal at a good pace. The wine list is short but with some good buys

This place is way better than the #40+ ranking on Trip Advisor.

“super fresh”
Reviewed December 19, 2011

They have fish besides ahi tuna and all of it was super fresh and cooked as we requested--including the rare hawaiian swordfish. They may seem aloof at first, but they definitely warm up. Overall, they are about 10-15% too high for what they are giving you and for the area, but solid quantity and excellent fish quality.

“Don't let the outside fool you - GOOD food”
Reviewed October 27, 2011

We read the reviews of this place and had to find it. We love seafood and weren't disappointed.
It is actually an older house converted into a restaurant and they have their own fish hatchery - very cool. It is located about 15 minutes outside Hilo.
As others have said it is a bit dated and could use a spruce up, but the food was good and so was the service.
We did discover that Hilo didn't have any 5 star restaurants or resorts, so went with what the guide books said, and where not disappointed.

“In one word...Tacky!”
Reviewed July 13, 2011

French Onion Soup was dreadful as well as the Misoyaki Butterfish which was way to sweet, I couldn't even eat it. Worst of all, after the first complimentary round of bread was served, when we asked for more bread our waitress said there was an additional charge of .50 cents per roll. For $25-30 a plate, that's just embarrassing!
