They had a great movie about the Mauna Kea--giving you a chance to get used to the altitute. Then, after going to the summitt, we came back to peer through their telescopes--some had been bumped, but Saturn and a nebulae were excellent. People flashing cameras and shining headlights in the area sadly took away from the night vision to fully appreciate the incredible star visibility up here.

Great to see this different side to Hawaii. Take warm clothing, take warm clothing, take warm clothing. I don't think anyone expects to be this cold in Hawaii! Breathtaking views, watching the sun set ABOVE the clouds, seeing Saturn and it's rings and of course the Moon through the telescopes. Very interesting activity to do.

No words to describe how awesome it was. Telescopes were amazing, View breathtaking. I would advise everyone to go as long as you have a 4WD vehicle.

We went for the sunset and stargazing tour with a tour guide. I would not recommend driving up yourself, the roads are very rough and narrow. Plus they are crowded with tour buses which makes it more difficult as some spots are only wide enough for one vehicle. The sunset was breath taking! The night we went there was a full moon so we didn't get in too much stargazing, make sure you check the moon phases before you book your tour. Very very cold, make sure you bring layers of clothing. We packed a winter hat and long johns and we were very thankful we had them!

When you can see nebulae with the naked eye, you know you're somewhere special. The altitude and the clear sky make this the home of 11 space telescopes and now I know the reason why.

This was the highlight of my Hawaiian Holiday.
