This is a hotel view a super view. For the ocean or for "inside". The rooms are big, clean and super comfortable. The people is friendly, and it has free parking. The city and the airport are close, and everything was perfect. When I will come back to Hawaii, I will be there again

This hotel is a little dated and shows it's age, but it was clean and comfortable. Our view from the 4th floor (ocean side) was lovely, but do be aware that it's not exactly a beach front view, as the hotel faces Hilo Bay with Coconut Island in front. Parking is also a little tricky, as their lots are limited and fill quickly - especially if there's any kind of event or gathering taking place, as there was the evening we checked in.

Nonetheless, the staff is friendly and the elevators are fast. There's an ice machine on every floor. Our room had a mini fridge w/ freezer, but it wasn't turned on when we arrived. I figured that out before we went to the store and came back with cold items, so it turned out okay. A microwave would be nice as would a little more furniture - there was a lot of dead space in our room.

Breakfast is not included and there is no room service, but the restaurant has an incredibly good, albeit expensive, breakfast buffet which opens at a very respectable 6:30 a.m. We didn't have the opportunity to try dinner, which we would have if they had been open later than 8:00 p.m. while we were there.

This isn't a resort hotel, but I don't think they're trying to be, and that's fine. They're very good at what they're doing.

We came from the wonderful world of aloha in Maui to total indifference at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. It has been many years since we last stayed here and things have definitely changed. No-one to help with the luggage, desolate lobby, no aloha welcome. We made our way to our ocean front room which was clean, non-smoking and had a wonderful view of Hilo Bay.
For breakfast the next morning we tried the hotel restaurant. There were just a handful of guests and one waitress who didn't seem to know what an omelet was. My husband ordered the three egg breakfast and received two eggs. The third had to be requested. Once again, no pleasant greeting and a feeling that something was amiss.
Later, in the cafe/bar our request for a fruit punch was met with blank stares by both the young waitress and the barman who returned to their conversation.
Around 10:30pm on the fourth night of our stay the peace was shattered with loud screams seemingly coming from all directions. Loud shouts of "Wahoo, wahoo," emanated from several balconies as drunken partygoers yelled across the bay to friends down below. This continued until 1:30am despite a call to security who didn't seem to know what to do. The next morning we glanced over at one of the balconies to see the small table laden with all manner of drugs and paraphernalia. Noxious smoke drifted into our room as ash fell onto the balcony. Welcome to Hilo.
In retrospect we should have checked out and moved the Grand Naniloa next door which, we discovered, has been beautifully refurbished to reflect the Merrie Monarch tradition of this city.
In conclusion, the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel cannot be called full service. There is virtually no bellman (we did see him lounging against the reception desk a couple of times, ignoring arriving guests), no valet parking, no room service. No Aloha spirit.

Room Tip: All of the ocean front rooms have beautiful views.

Stayed here Sept. 16-Sept 20, 2017 in an oceanview room. I loved everything about the place--the view, the location, the cleanliness, all the conveniences, and especially the size of the Unit. If I go back to Hilo, this will definitely be where I will stay!

Not quite up to the standards of a Hilton, but not as expensive either. This hotel definitely makes me think of a Hawaiian Hotel with its open air lobby and Asian feel. It’s clean and well kept grounds are nice and relaxing, but don’t expect to find the extra perks like an exercise room or heated pool! Location on Banyan Drive is perfect. This hotel is definitely popular with Japanese tourists. The beds were comfortably firm and the staff friendly and punctual.
